Oculus Quest 2 Pro / Oculus Quest 3 Thread

My suspicion is this is a Pro version, with some fancy features, but games will still be produced with quest 2 specs in mind. Basically something for people with more money to spend on.

If the Pro version has a wider FOV with proper IPD, and no controller occlusion, (as looks likely) then I'd definitely consider buying one. The narrow FOV on the Quest 2 really annoys me as I can see the screen edges.

Facebook have been pushing the OpenXR format for quite a while - I think that all the recent apps and games have to use this VR/AR API which makes it much simpler to support different VR devices. It'd be great if they could open their store to other headsets, as there are some stonking games on there which really need a wider audience.

the way FB / Oculus are going, i cant seem me getting the next quest, ill probably end up paying more and getting the new index

Not as easy as it sounds

After contacting Ivy at oculus support, my dev account details were reset as I was unable to log in... even though the details are the same as my main oculus/facebook account which I could log into. After that I was able to add another phone number (the same number) to re-verify my account again. Another factory reset

of the Q2, removed and reinstalled the mobile app, reenabled the dev account on the mobile app, reinstalled sidequest, and hello sidequest connectability

^ I don't even think you need to enable developer mode to disable the guardian now? Or i cant remember doing it last week when i factory reset my Q2, might be my bad memory.

I wonder if the oculus website will be taking orders for quest 3 to coincide with the event announcing it? If its got a significantly improved display over quest 2 i'm buying asap even at $500-$600 (if it is that much).

You still need applab for source ports that require the original game data to be purchased elsewhere, like HL1, the Doom games, Quake, etc.
Oculus can't allow those on the official store for licensing and copyright reasons. Though it would be good if Oculus could try to get the licensing rights for those games and approach the devs who ported them to make them official ports.

I'd like to see new controller design, more comfortable to use, trying to get to the buttons farthest away from you is difficult, controllers need to be up slightly if they are going to maintain the same format of handles

What's the index ones like in comparison?

I have the index controllers with a pimax and quest 2 with touch (obviously). I like both controller types about the same, the index is cool with every finger being tracked but not much utilizes it. I'm slightly more fluid with touch but i thinking thats because ive been using them for much longer.

The two biggest issues with the Index controllers are the button/stick layout (the trackpad in the middle makes the layout less than ideal) and the grip sensors which when they work are amazing but most games don't get them right. Oh and of course reliability issues with the thumbsticks.

But generally the Index controllers are great, especially with grip boosters to bulk them out a bit.
