Oculus Rift

Because he believes cross VR platform games will be to exception to the rule and most wont be. I'm not apportioning blame but it is still a disappointing insight into the situation.

The author of the article said that, luckey actually pointed out the opposite - that several Oculus funded games were already integrating SteamVR support as well as Rift.

Anyone know if they're going to support crossfire/sli ?? Just wondering if I'm gonna have to upgrade to a single gpu. Was hoping to hold off until pascal/Polaris but my rift due in April.

I queried my cpu (3770k @ 4.2ghz) and crossfire setup (7950 and R9 280):

"Hello,

Thanks for reaching out to Oculus Support. I apologize for the delay in getting back to you.

The Oculus Compatibility Tool only checks for components that are known to work with the Oculus Rift. Failing the Compatibility tool doesn't mean your computer will not work with the Oculus Rift.

We can only guarantee that the best VR experience will come with a computer that meets our recommended specifications.

Regarding Crossfire setups, the Oculus Rift runs best on a single GPU setup and this may be why the GPU section is failing. I can suggest checking out this article (https://support.oculus.com/hc/en-us/articles/215526797) for recommended graphics cards.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can do for you.

Thanks,

Vincent

SLI / CrossFire not recommended. Too much latency, with current implementations.

Games supporting DX12 and GameWorks VR however, should support dual card setups in an efficient and VR friendly manner.

My guess is, the next generation will see dedicated VR cards, with onboard dual GPUs.

Do you guys really think we'll need more then 8GB of ram? or you just going to stick to 8GB? Also can anyone explain in any detail why or how Oculus games would use 16gb of ram?

Thanks in advance.

Depends on the depth of the game really, I could easily see titles like Elite and Valkerie requiring large amounts of RAM but not all games will need it.

Oculus wouldn't list it as minimum spec if it wasn't needed for something.

Why are you lot spending 500 notes on a pre order with no reviews, oh i must be first in line to get this overpriced clunk:confused::confused::confused:

Except I've seen lots of people praise DK2 etc and I really want my hands on one. We have seen VR demonstrated for ages, if it's not for me (which I really doubt) I will sell it on.

I can understand that from a latency point of view.

That just wouldn't work in my home (at the moment though), looks like the Vive is out of the question.

I thought with the 'new' Vive Pre they showed at CES the lighthouse boxes needed power but the connection with the PC was wireless?
