Oculus Rift

Hey everyone, I was wondering if anybody can tell me when with the top gaming websites actually have an offical CV1 and be giving reviews?

Will they get an official Oculus Rift before us, the consumer?

And also when would shops have them to demo?

Thanks for your reply. I wonder if that means that you can just walk into a shop in Leeds or elsewhere in the UK and just buy one instead of pre-ordering then.

Also what games are you guys looking forward to in VR? So far the only game I've seen which looks like a high end AAA game is Eve Valykrie but do you guys know if three's any other AAA games coming for Oculus and VR?

im hoping Alien and Elite will be excellent :)

Oh yeah I have Alien Isolation and Elite Dangerous too and I saw on youtube people playing both those games with DK2 and saying it was amazing so I'm looking forward to that too but do you know if there's an official Oculus VR games coming that actually look good?

I'm just wondering if there's some amazing games just around the corner that I've missed or not heard about?

It will suck if all we get is one game for like 6 months. Even though Eve Valkyrie does look great!

I had a go with the headset today at an expo, it was demonstrating a loop on fair ride. The spatial VR was just ridiculous, if anything it was almost too much.

When you're doing a loop your eyes make you feel like you're actually doing a loop but your body knows you're not so the sensation is disconcerting, I only wore them for a few minutes though so perhaps this feeling would diminish.

This is definitely going to be the future of gaming in my opinion, the immersion is just unbelievable competed to a flat screen.

Not a bad demo that Atomic and the first thing I tried on the DK2 - A little short but a good experience overall. There is some quality demo's out there that are fan made or indi dev made and some of them are fantastic.

The one game I am buying the CV1 for is Elite and man did it work well on the DK2! Eve Valkyrie looks sweet as well but not much else other than possibly "The Climb" has peaked my interest that I have read. Ohhh and as for horror games..... **** that!!!! :D

Have you tried any form of VR? The DK2 perhaps? DK1? Vive? Google cardboard even? And to claim people on here are total skinflints is silly. I am willing to bet that pretty mcuh all who have pre-ordered have tried VR, liked it and based their decision on that.

Not sure this thread is for you really.

Don't get me wrong i am very interested in this and i want it to work, that app can your computer run this was a load of ********, saying my usb's don't support this:confused: my i5 not enough even though it's sitting 4.7ghz:confused:

Would you pre order a GPU before any benchmarks or reviews were out.

No, the selected outlets will only be in American (according to the Oculus AMA a few weeks ago).

Someone seems rather salty :p there will be limited quantities, so if we didn't pre-order and it was great then how would we have a chance of getting one without going back to the late 90's style teletubby toy ques...? Which was rather silly, really!

The Asmedia USBs are not the best and I have ordered many GPUs before any reviews were out because I understand what I am buying and understand how the tech works.

Im amazed how upset several of you are about a basic spec checking app "insulting" your pride and joy lol its kind of hilarious at the same time.

All that is really going to matter for the rift is the performance of your GFX card. Thats really all there is to it. Pascal will be the way to go asap but i think 980 or ti or 290x+ cards will manage for now. SLI xfire support will be shocking until nv/ati pull their finger out and optimize (2017?) so dont hold your breath even if you are rocking 4 titans lol

Why would i pre order this?

1) its only £500 thats basically a cheap/mid spec telly i dont have a clue why theres such drama
2) I had DK2 and thought it was amazing, too much screen door for me but its vastly better in retail occulus.
3) Im interested in commercial applications of VR in education and industrial sectors and potential business opportunities

I really think this is all quite silly over £500, Vive is going to be much more expensive. I mean....its £500! if its something you want its a pittance and if its something you dont then why are you even in here?

I'm pretty sure Pascal will not be the way to go.
Firstly it will arrive later than AMD's new 14nm high end.
Second, Pascal is highly rumoured not to feature hardware based Asynchronous compute - A factor that drastically reduces latency, A must for a smoother gaming experience.
So it may not be until the generation after Pascal the best VR card trophy belonging to Nvidia.

The IDEAL VR card is a long way off, as that will be something pushing out dual 4k stereams at 90fps plus! But you may be correct as to which card takes the crown! We wont know until its all out anyway!

Make do with my 3x290x setup for now tho im expecting crummy performance in some apps

As for the usb issue...the only reason it requires all the USB 3 ports is for power, USB 3 has to provide more power than 2.0 as standard so this isnt really a bandwidth thing just a way of getting rid of cris crossing mains adapters which tbh i think is a huge deal
