Sidelight blew, swapped it, brake light blew! swapped that, other side light (in same cluster) then blows, swap that too.
Next the indicator bulb blew so that got changed too.

It'll probably explode when I try reverse gear - I did not touch that bulb.

I need a new cluster possibly? - not sure, cleaned up the contacts etc & it looks fine.....

More likely, I'm merely cursed! :(

& to think I thought Italian cars had cack electrics?

You bought an old beemer expecting reliability?

That XJ is awesome :). I appreciate the offer, really, I do, but I've got to resist temptation and try to remain sensible. A few months without cars isn't going to do me any harm, then onto bigger & better things :).

You need to re think that while i cook the fahitas and will gill tells his wifre that wife swapping is the way forward :D

You keep going on about this wifeswap. Why do I get the feeling it's never going to happen? :p

Only problem with that XJ8 is that it is (or looks to me like) an auto :( I don't like autos, need to have something to occupy my left leg with xD

You should let DM help you out a little. You only live once in two months time you will be thinking I wish I had that Jag from DM!

No its going to happen, we just got to peruade Elsa its all good :D

I'm really not sure why you'd want a manual box in something like a XJ to be honest. Or any car with a decently sized engine that isn't going to see regular track or B-Road action for that matter. For around town or on the motorway I can't think of a logical single reason why you'd want to change gears yourself.

Oh, and as for getting your left foot something to do, teach yourself left foot braking ;).

That xj looks nice. Does the light leather pick up marks or dull much? Is it a 6-speed in the x350? How much difference in power is the 3.5 to the 4.2?

I never thought I'd agree on the auto box thing but these days, having the bike too, auto sounds nice in something like that.

I just prefer it xD Gives me something to do.

I drum, play sax and piano, so both legs and arms are used to doing something :p

If a few bulbs blowing after I've disturbed the cluster is all that gives grief, I'll be happy. :)

So would I! But I'd also be very surprised :p

The 3.5 is the sweet spot between a 3 litre and a 4.2.

That light leather is a pain to keep clean, but looks lovely.

Oh r. I was considering only the 4.2 (x350 or S-Type) for when I'm too girly to commute on the bike in the winter. Is it a completely different engine, or based on the 4.2?

I do love the leather there but know I'm too lazy to keep on top of the cleaning... Unless I can pay someone else to do it!

The 3.5 is a V8 so you get basically the same grunt as a 4.2.

The 3 litre V6 is a good engine too, still got the grunt, if it was me on the hunt i would just buy the best car with the lowest owners and best history i could find, be it 3 litre, 3.5 or 4.2.

The leather yea its a pain, i make mates put a towel down if they got jeans on, and i swear by glyptone liquid leather.

Hold out for a private sale XJ rather than a Stype if you can, they are out there. Its a different drive different gravy.

For example that one there is a winner http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201118386259129/

That does look tasty. I'd have to change that grill though, yours looks far more agreeable.

I'll likely annoy you some more in the coming months re these if that's ok! (if you don't die in the Lexus/Ford)

Ask away whatever you like, i tell you the best 2 upgrades on them, the mesh grill about 100 quid on ebay or 200 quid from adamesh and a big back number plate.

seriously listen up, iv driven every single car out there and for 4 or 5 grand there is nothing, nothing that comes within a mile of these cars as long as you buy the right car.
