***Official 2010 F1 thread***

I like it :-)

And I like the way we're getting "national" teams - Force India, USF1, Malaysia1 (I.e. Lotus).

I also find it very amusing that nearly all the cars are designed by British engineers and most of the team staff are British!
Current world champ is British and new world champ is likely to be British.
FIA president is British and F1 rights holder is British.

Long may the British rule continue!

I wonder if it's going to be like cricket or football though? We show all the other countries how to play the game then they give us a sound thrashing!

I was scared to click on Flibster's link when I saw the post and responses. Thinking I knew what it was going to be I was about to roll my eyes and say "Not that picture of Flavio in a thong again" but his link is actually worse that that!

Breaking news on the BBC news site: Renault admit guilt, Flav is taking the tumble.

I suspect this will be bigger than Renault though. Can anyone see Flav continuing to manage drivers after this? His credibility is utterly shot through.

Renault team statement

The ING Renault F1 Team will not dispute the recent allegations made by the FIA concerning the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix.

It also wishes to state that its managing director, Flavio Briatore and its executive director of engineering, Pat Symonds, have left the team.

Before attending the hearing before the FIA World Motor Sport Council in Paris on 21 September 2009, the team will not make any further comment.

Wow. So Pat and Flavio have taken the tumble. May we presume that, as with Liegate, the team themselves will avoid heavy punishment now the guilty parties have been hoofed?

With the guilty parties removed, why should the team have to go down?

Autosport say that the fact these two have left won't have any "bearing" over next week's decision. I disagree with that, they'll come to some sort of a deal now I'd imagine and let Renault continue with new team leaders, as all those guys who (allegedly) nothing to do with the race fixing would be out of a job otherwise, and that simply isn't fair. :(

Because they're corrupt obviously. Maclaren got a monster fine and removed from drivers championship for the actions of a few people, and thats in a different league

It's a lot of people who'll be without employment... Not good!

What are the implications for Alonso in this? I haven't seen what part he played. As an Alonso fan, I'd hope he somehow didn't know... Unlikely though?

I think that it is safe to say that Renault will pull out of F1, even if they aren't forced out.

The only real questions remaining are:
  • will Renault complete this year's remaining races?
  • will any of the merde flying around stick to Alonso?

As an Alonso fan, I'd hope he somehow didn't know... Unlikely though?

If you were Pat or Flav, would you tell Alonso? I wouldn't.

The only way he will know is if it was his idea and I don't see any good reason why he would do that. He wasn't in the championship, it was a race for nothing from his point of view.

With the guilty parties removed, why should the team have to go down?

You're telling me that Flavio Briatore, Pat Symonds and Nelson Piquet Jr were the only ones in the team to be involved? Out of all the employees who work at the track on race weekends, those three were the only ones? The word I'm looking for starts with "b", ends in "s", and refers to a gentleman's bits and pieces.

And thecremeegg makes a good point. McLaren got thrown out of the constructors championship for a simple case of getting caught engaging in a spot of industrial espionage. Renault fixed the result of a race, risking the life of a driver in the process. And that one action had further ramifications - Massa was comfortably leading that race, he may well have gone on to win it without the safety car. It was having to take that panicky, botched pitstop that cost him points there that day.

Another proverb from the Book Of Walker - F1 is IF spelt backwards....

***edit***

Presumably if Renault F1 are hit with a truly monstrous fine as part of any forthcoming punishment, they'll sue the co-conspirators to recoup what they can of it. Flav might want to start thinking about asking Bernie for a loan!

Alonso will have been kept in the dark about this if Renault have any sense.
I VERY much doubt that ;)

I dont think this will affect him at all in the long run.
I'm quite sure you're right there :(

It is quite possible that Alonso didn't initiate this plan; it is remotely possible that he didn't know about it before the start of the Singapore GP; it is completely unimaginable that he didn't know all about the cunning plan after the race.

As far as possible punishments go for Renault, this is what Mad Max has to say:

whoever writes the articles for ITV-F1.com said:
Mosley said that if Renault were found guilty, a severe penalty would be warranted and the World Motor Sport Council could go as far as banning the team from F1 for all time.

“It could be anything up to disqualification,” he said.

“Because that's what's set out in the [International Sporting Code].

“Disqualification means you are out, finished.

“Out. Total. Exclusion forever, gone, finished.

“That is the worst that could happen.”

No, the worst that could happen is that all the employees who were involved end up in a dungeon.

With you.

And a pile of whips and nipple clamps.
