***Official 2010 F1 thread***

Fine, he wanted (and maybe even needed) a win

And the terrible irony about that is that they won the very next race on merit (yes, yes - it still required Hamilton and Massa to drive like a pair of 'tards in the opening laps, but it was a great drive from Alonso).

Ron Dennis prided himself on his integrity to such a degree that I cannot imagine him sanctioning anything like that, nor would he want to win that way, by obtaining detailed technical info on a competitor and effectively cheating.

Had he known about it earlier, he'd have done something about it.

Hehehe.

So in otherwords, what you are suggesting is that R.Dennis didnt even know what the hell his own employees were upto, while they were on company premisis, using company equipment? Perhaps he really was that naive and stupid, but I doubt it.

On the day that Alonso made the threat, it was a throw away comment that he made while walking to back his motorhome, after (a controversial )Hungarian GP qualifying, when R.Dennis was having a go at him for what happened during the qualifying session.

Alonso, flippantly told him to get lost or he will tell the FIA was the team have been upto (regarding holding Ferrari technical data). R.Dennis, knew exactly what Alonso was talking about and from this point onwards hardly spoke to Alonso and didnt interview Alonso to find out what he was referring to. R.Dennis then reported his team to the FIA.

Take note that he didnt ask Alonso about the emails, which Alonso was talking about in his threat. Dennis didnt need clarification. He knew exactly what Alonso was talking about.

Dennis knew exactly what was going on. And so he should.

F1 is corrupt. It is full of dodgy people, namely due to the competitive nature of the sport and the sheer amounts of money involved. All teams want to win,, sometimes, even if it means winning in an unfair manner. I have no doubt that if Ferrari had come by McLaren data, that Ferrari would also have taken a detailed look, to assist their own car development program.

Personally, if I was a McLaren employee and there was a big fat document with Ferrari data/diagrams on it, I would 100% take a look at it. I don't see anything wrong with this. Now, what N.Stepney did (as a paid employee of Ferrari), where he handed over data to a rival team: this was out of order and totally dispicable.

Very true :D

great drive from Alonso, but then you could say the high from the Singapore win was working for the team at the next race, where as the "proper" result might not have allowed that (psychology and all that - one of those immesurables)

Great drive either way......but we will never know;)

Still think there is a huge difference between being given data from inside x team and stealing it yourself, but the FIA in its Ultimate Wisdom, cant differentiate (or didnt want to due to the love /hate relationship between them and Ferrari /McLaren / RD inparticular

It's a thoroughly stupid move by Nelson because before all this happened I'm sure another team would have given him a drive at some point because he is clearly a talented driver. But now? Not a chance that he will ever race in F1 again, he has destroyed any hope of that.

It was all nelsons idea, and he got away with it....

Hasn't that been both Symond's and Briatore's claim since the news broke? He is hardly going to change his story of events and shoot himself in the foot. Nelson got away without any real punishment from the FIA but he doesnt stand much chance of getting another drive in F1. If I was a top flight racing driver and I knew I stood no chance of getting into F1 I would see it as quite a punishment.

oh my word just read this:

Even if the idea was first put forward by NPJr, it's not like Symonds and Briatore had to go along with it. Personally, I still think more people were involved than just those three and "Witness X" but I doubt we'll ever know the true extent of it.

WTF!? Nnnnooo!
If you're gonna live near a world famous race track... Should maybe expect some burden...

Thing is, it's almost always people who move there without knowing there's a race track and then complain about the noise... Same happened with Brands Hatch.

Do some research about the local area and you'd find the racetrack - maybe pay the house a visit on a race weekend to see what the noise is like.

Too noisy? Don't move in!

good thing i went to spa gp this year... its a damn shame was i wanted to go back. Does this mean they have lost all the other races or just f1?

Im sure this will be sorted out before 2010 race tho.

So who do we think is Witness X?

Someone in the spotlight or a behind the scenes chap.

i.e. - not the bloke in the other car? :)
