***Official 2010 F1 thread***

I can't see the significance of this announcement.
Has Gilles Simon done something wrong?
Has Luca Marmorini been on gardening leave from Toyota since January?

Very strange to do something like this at the end of the season imo (even if Ferrari are only fighting for 3rd in the CWC wiht McLaren)

Also a bit of a strange amount of gardening leave too (8 months by my reckoning)

Dont think there is much major significance though

I think thats a bad move for Kubica. Renault are treading water even with the great teflonso right now. I can't see them doing anything except tread water until renault pull the plug.

I think Toyota would have been a better option.

Sorry, but I agree with Bernie's take on Howett (that he doesn't really have a clue). Renault (parent company, not F1) are making positive noises about staying in F1, Toyota (parent company, not F1) aren't (and are delaying making a decision about budget for next year). Renault F1 have won previously, Toyota are still chasing a win after untold billions.

Williams would have been an OK choice, however, their engine situation for next year is too murky and I don't fancy their chances with a 4 year old cossie design if they don't go with Renault.

On the subject of the Renault engine, I think it's been shown that it's around as powerful as the merc lump after the commanding performance at the weekend (and I believe Vettel was holding a lot back to conserve the engine and fuel). Perhaps the Monza showing for Mercedes has more to do with those teams having a more highly developed low-downforce Monza spec than anything else?

Ross Brawn is convinced further radical rule changes are necessary to increase overtaking and improve the spectacle in Formula 1.
...
One factor that blunted the planned downforce reduction was the loophole in the regulations that spawned the controversial twin-diffuser designs pioneered by Brawn, Toyota and Williams and subsequently developed by the rest of the F1 grid.

You do have to give Ross Brawn credit for his chutzpah :D

Interesting rumour time.
The McLaren MP4/12 roadcar has a McLaren engine

The 2010 McLaren F1 car may have a McLaren engine, if the rumour is true. McLaren are interested in buying the BMW F1 engine division.

Given that Mercedes owns 40% of McLaren though, I really doubt they'd let them do that.

Aren't engine suppliers only allowed to supply two teams. So that would be McLaren and Brawn (think the big push into Brawn is 2011). No Force India.

A McLaren engine would be cool.

It was the chassis that was impressive imo rather than the engine per se (look at how bad Alonso was with the same engine)

Its a decent mid grid engine, or lowest of Merc / Ferrari / Renault on power - but the Newey chassis has just made it look that good at the weekend imo (and I dont believe Vettel was holding back that much - according to Horner they where worried if they had put any fuel in at teh 2nd stop because he was going so fast (maybe a little exagerated but even so shows V wasnt holding back)

Looks like kubica has gone to renualt, in two minds about it. A step down imo but then again bmw have pulled out, so a setup. Is the glass half full i ask myself.

Webber mad to stay loyal to Flav if it means losing his seat. I thought it wouldn't matter who he drove for he wouldn't be allowed to stay with him and keep a super license?

The FIA will not renew the licenses of anyone still under Flavs management, i believe this applys to all forms of motorsport governed by the FIA aswell.

Webber is managing himself, he has just not "distanced" himself, or condemned Briatore (I think) Its a PR thing I think more than anyone else.

I don't think he is losing his Superlicense.

Kimi to RBR and Mark Webber to McLaren perhaps?

If the story is true then that would probably work for all parties....in fact I doubt RBR would fork out that kind of money for Kimi

Also if Mark has got a signed contract for 2010, and he manages himself then its a non story without a pay off surely? (I can understand RBR being let out of the remaining amount of the contract for free IF Flav still manages MW , but if he doesnt then its got nothing to do with them either way who Mark "personally" supports)

IF MW and FB have no legal contract in that regard, then I cant see what RBR can complain about

I'm surprised they can get anything done at Red Bull. If all they drink is Red Bull they must all twitch like a nervous sphincter. :D

Did you notice the not-so-subtle angling of the red-bull can by one of the guys on the Torro Rosso pit wall after Algewhatshisname's crash? :D

And, if he drinks the stuff on the pitwall, it's no wonder Horner is always jiggling his leg.
