***Official 2010 F1 thread***

Did you notice the not-so-subtle angling of the red-bull can by one of the guys on the Torro Rosso pit wall after Algewhatshisname's crash? :D

And, if he drinks the stuff on the pitwall, it's no wonder Horner is always jiggling his leg.

Haha, yes Indeed. I had to rewind it to show the Mrs. Opens. Drinks. And then as returning and seeing the camera is on him subtly turns the can to show it's red bull ;)

Presumably they have a special supply of cans which just have water or something in them. Couldn't be doing with drinking that crap all the time no matter how much I was being paid.

Very funny, I was going to post exactly the same after reading philjohn's post :)

Perhaps CSlNuts can clear that up.

Personally, I do believe these people really are drinking all that RedBull. A lot of those guys look like they care little about their health and simply want to stay totally focussed during the race.

I guess they are used to it after a while, if I would drink Red Bull constantly I would spent more time throwing up on the bog than doing my job :o

I have one most mornings, but only because coffee gives me a horrendous stomach ache, you get used to it after a while!

Used to love Lucozade solstis until it was discontinued.

Webber just isnt that good imo. Mclaren should do better.

Points for Mark Webber so far this year: 51.5
Points for Heikki Kovalainen so far this year: 22

Podium places for Mark Webber so far this year: 6
Podium places for Heikki Kovalainen so far this year: 0

Wins for Mark Webber so far this year: 1

I think, on balance, Mark Webber would be a much better candidate for the drive than the current line-up....which is why he'd be bloody lucky to get the job. Can't possibly have a driver who might engage in the merest hint of a possibility of getting halfway close to Lewis Hamilton.

In all honesty, Webber belongs in a different era of this sport. He did his time at Minardi, and did better than most in that he was able to get points for them (even the much-vaunted Alonso couldn't do that*). He's spent time at the 'wrong' end of the grid, and now he has the machinery to take on the big boys he's doing just that. He belongs in the 1980s/early '90s really - that was the major era for 'apprenticeships' in backmarker, starting-money-specials teams.

* - I'm being horribly unfair here. A), Webber's 5th place in Australia involved luck on a scale never seen since in F1. This doesn't diminish the achievement, but it's still a factor to consider. B), Alonso was seriously impressive at Minardi - I'll take anyone to task that says his '01 Japanese GP performance wasn't special.

While I agree with your point in general about Mark Webber being a good driver and perhaps being a bit to late to show his full potential, I think using this years stats to compare him to Kovi isnt really fair on Kovi, seen as the McLaren was dog slow for the first half of the season. It scews the points bit.

At the end of the day though - Hamilton has two wins in that car this year, Kovy hasn't even made it to the podium yet. Yes, the car wasn't great at the start of the year. Neither was the Ferrari though, and despite missing a bunch of races Massa still has as many points as HK so far. Yes, Hamilton is one of the best drivers on the grid. But so is Vettel, and Webber is pretty close to the German on points.

Kovy has been a massive disappointment at McLaren, but one that I should have seen coming. He was never going to be allowed to beat Hamilton, but he ought to have been able to get a little bit closer than he has done. If it's McLaren screwing him over, then I guess it's proof that they only give a toss about having a champion driver rather than having the best team. If it's down to him, then they need to replace him. Fast.

But TBH, with all the drivers potentially floating round the market, is Webber really the best option for McLaren? Why not someone younger you can keep for 3 to 5 years and develop with?

More importantly, have we had any official (i.e. Bernie) announcement of where the British/European GP will be next year?

Jesus wept, Webber's only 33. He's got a few years left yet!

Not sure. Whatever does happen, I'll confidently predict that according to this forum it will be all Bernie's fault.

?

If its Silverstone it will be the best decision he ever made. There is no godly way in the world that Donnington will a) be ready in time, and b) be able to host it without a 10 hour traffic jam and people missing the race, getting there car stuck, and complaining.

The FIA/FOM just need to see through the smoke and mirrors and make the right choice.

Webber is focussed on racing. He is fit. He isn't distracted by a playboy lifestyle, so there is every chance that he will remain competitive for the next 3-5 years.

Webber or Kimi would be fantastic choices to partner Hamilton.

USF1 Car in "Construction Phase".

"Our timing is according to plan," said team principal Ken Anderson in the statement, "with an early November "roller" and a finished car in time for January 2010 testing."

Seems like they're moving along okay, though they obviously aren't going to come out and say that they're massively behind schedule and the whole undertaking is a disaster!

Its been seen since in the same race - Rubens going from 5th to 2nd in this year's race in a few laps because others took each other out / retired :D

Ah, but Rubens was only down there in 5th because he'd been unlucky enough to hit everything except the pace car after getting walloped at Turn 1 by Kovy. Webber, on the other hand, was driving a Minardi that was coming apart at the seams by the end of that '02 race - broken differential, traction control all but dead, having to keep the revs low and short-shift just to stay on the island. Plus the fact that he was only that high because the race didn't get restarted after the Turn 1 apocalypse....Mika Salo dropping it while trying to overtake and running out of time to re-catch the Australian just about put the icing on the Luck Cake!
