***Official 2010 F1 thread***

This is getting bloody ridiculous. No one ever had confidence in what Donington had planned. They tried, they failed, go back to Silverstone.

Even if they get the funds, surely they don't have the time now to get all the modifications done?
I can see there being no British GP next year, with Donington only ready for 2011. Which is about what everyone thought when the bomb was dropped at Silverstone.

I can see Bernie confirming Donington for 2011, offering Silverstone 1 year and 1 year only, Silverstone reject, because a 1 year deal is worthless, and Bernie will go "oh, ok, in that case, no British GP in 2010". Then in the mean while he will replace the british GP on the calendar with <generic boring street track> in <generic rich city> and cut the deal with Donington meaning no more British GP.

TBH, its been evident since the begining. And its public knowledge that Bernie wants shot of the British GP any way he can.

Not to mention the British GP date for 2010 being on the same day as the world cup final. As if ticket sales wouldnt be hit hard enough being this late at even anouncing the even is even on!

I think I remember reading some where that if it goes back to Silverstone they won't be able to call it the British GP due to the contract, so it'll be called the European GP and Valencia will be called the Med GP, not sure how true this is but I hope they can have it at Silverstone by calling it whatever they have to.

Surely donnington will be the ones in breach of contract and they won't have any hold over the name....?

No british GP next year then... Bernie isnt stupid. He knows that Donington cannot ever be ready in time, but hes deliberately pushing the deadline back so that it becomes to late for Silverstone to host the event, and the british GP vanishes. Coupled with the German GP possibly not going ahead, and Spa looking to go bi-annually with another track, European GPs are becoming an endangered species. All this stupid timeings on the fly away tracks to please the european audience, yet Bernie is getting rid of all the actual European GPs!

Bernie and Gillett to become the most hated men in british motorsport.

What is the likelihood that KERS WILL continue to be used in 2010 and since Toyota are probably the world leaders in power recovery systems in cars with their Hybrid Synergy Drive as used on the Toyota Prius, I wonder why they have never implemented KERS in F1; you would have thought that it would help with both R&D and PR

Not at all

Williams where making noises about using it next year - but even they have back tracked since and said they will not be using it

In a standard car - a Kers system woudnt be that much added weight, but in a highly balanced very light F1 car it can be a nightmare to place in a good spot (plus the fact that next year all teams have to accomodate a much larger (at least double) fuel cell, I cant imagine there being that much space available to use within the chasis

Bernie will then buy it for next to nothing...

Not that its ever stopped anyone in F1 (not looking at Flav of course) but surely that would be a conflict of interest

(I presume you where meaning he would then license it for British GP from himself with FOM head on)

Donington boss Simon Gillett said on Monday he had been given another two weeks to provide financial guarantees.

But Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone denied that amounts to a new deadline. "We haven't decided to give Gillett another deadline at all. We have informed him he is in breach of contract." he told the Daily Telegraph. "The contract which we have gives him 14 days to remedy the breach. Most business contracts are like that."

...

British Racing Drivers' Club president Damon Hill has intimated that a longer-term deal would be needed to make it practical for Silverstone to reach the required standard to stage the race. "I'd like to see an end to the continuing saga of 'is there going to be a British Grand Prix or not?'" Hill told BBC Radio 5 live. "I think it's about time that we had a venue that can be developed to provide the best sort of facilities. We do lag behind some of the great stadiums we have in this country for football. We want to provide a really great venue for the fans but in order to do that we will need to have the kind of contract which provides enough scope to develop the facility without too much risk to the company going bust."

So the British F1 GP will definitely be at Silverstone . . . or Donington . . . or not
