***Official 2010 F1 thread***

Mad Max engaging in a spot of intimidation to make sure Arti Vatanen doesn't get the FIA presidency.

Nice and unsavoury. Just what we've come to expect of the current regime. And remember folks, a vote for Jean Todt is effectively a vote for keeping Mad Max in power - Todt will just be a puppet with Max holding the strings. I really hope Ari wins it!

Williams have now officially ditched Toyota.
Bye bye Kazuki.

Having Williams would be an advantage to Cosworth, allows them to have a team thats a known quantity for testing.

Hopefully Williams will have their 2010 car or a 2009/2010 hybrid running early on the track as Cosworth have only run their engines on the test beds so far - they really need it in a car.

That article is nearly 2 weeks old, I thought we already discussed it here?

Did we? Sorry, I guess I missed it. That's what I get for not checking this thread very regularly! :)

Surely he was going to be let go anyway - he's still not got a single point on the board yet, and doesn't look like making any breakthrough in the remaining two races. Williams would have been mad to keep him, even if they were retaining Toyota power.

I wonder whether this is based on Williams' knowledge of Toyota's plans for next year?

I read somewhere a while ago that Touota believed that endurance races such as the Le Mans 24 Hours would be a better showcase for their cars and engineering skills but that it lacked the profile of F1 in which as the world's largest car manufacturer they really have rather embarrassed themselves.

I dont see getting Cossy in (by choice) as a step in the right direction, I was really hoping they would be Williams - Renualt again (it just sounds right to me)

If they couldnt afford Ferrari, and Renault decided not to supply anyone else they may well have been forced in that direction which is a huge pity, but I guess Bernie / Max insisting on Cossy getting supply of all other teams this kind of thing was bound to happen

Seems like they got their "two - tier" grid that they always wanted

The Renault unit isn't that great though, although it depends on what tweaks they are allowed at the end of the season I guess.

its GOT to be better than a Cosy surely!!!

(and dont forget there will be four or five other teams with Cosy anyway - so thats another reason why AN Other manufacturer would be better, especially one currently in F1)

thats how I looked at it anyway :)

[McLaren engineering director Paddy Lowe,] One of the key figures charged with boosting overtaking in Formula 1 has said altering corners on tracks, rather than the cars, may be the way forward.
...
"We were talking about this the other day with Martin Whitmarsh. As he said, if you go to circuit and ask a driver where he can overtake, he will say 'well, there is only one place where I might be able to do it and it's here'. All the drivers will agree on that same corner, there is no dispute on that point. So, if you follow the logic of that, really we should be looking at 'OK, why shouldn't all corners have the features that drivers can so easily pinpoint to improve opportunities at circuits as whole'."
