***Official 2010 F1 thread***

Surely though if Freddy Mchalfwit makes a decision you don't like then everyone will say "Who is he to be making decisions, don't know him from a hole in the road"

I wouldn't in 99% of the other sports I follow or interests I have I neither know nor need to know whose running or involved in the running of the sport.

Its only F1 with the corrupt politics that over shadows the racing that everyone worries about whose in charge.

Reports in the Japanese press say Toyota are going to be pulling the plug on F1.

This is like the "there raising the age to drive to 18" rumour that goes around schools every autumn. The rumours that Toyota are going to quit F1 have been around for many years. Basically the team with the biggest budget in F1 hasnt won a race yet... and naturally people ask questions, and rumours start that they are going to quit.

TBH, unless they go elsewhere with their motorsport (WRC maybe) I dont think they will quit F1 yet. But I also agree that people wont really care that much if they did, they have been a bit of an anonymous team in F1.

EDIT: I think I must add though, I think the reason they havent wona race is because of their choice of driver, not their car. While it wont every happen, signing Kimi could get them their win they need. They have always seemed to have second rate or second hand drivers.

I think Mercedes have the right strategy with McLaren/Brawn/Force India - if the teams are successful they can take the credit, if unsuccessful they can distance themselves.

Frankly, Renault should be looking to do the same and make Red Bull the works team, and perhaps Toyota would have been better off doing the same with Williams.

So then, just how many of you are sat there poised to scream blue bloody murder if Todt appoints someone who has even peripherally been involved with Ferrari in the past? :)

Me ;)

And I bet it's schui the cheat(more back handers coming to ferrari)

Well its been rumoured for the last two or three months so hardly a surprise, just wonder if they will supply engines for anyone (I doubt it but its a possibility)

edit and that would mean BMW - Sauber actually geting the spot officially (rather than 1st reserve which is what they have been upto now) which imo is more likely to be competetive throughout the season

Not a great loss (although hopefully the staff will find work elsewhere) and enables Sauber back on the grid.

I wonder how much money Toyota have actually spent on F1 and yet still never won.

A lot of my friends were over in Germany as contractors, they were let go quite a while ago. Shame really but, i can understand them not wanting to throw more money at it.

The three new teams for 2010, wouldn't they be better taking over the Toyota team, intellectual property, infrastructure etc (like Brawn did) rather than starting from scratch?

Were Toyota working on a 2010 spec car?

I can't believe they stayed so long without a win, they should have left years ago or continue until they succeed, now they look like a bunch of losers.

Like several other manufacturers over the years (Honda, BMW, Ford to name three) they'd have been better off just being an engine supplier in F1. They could have linked up with an established team, offered sponsorship, engines and technical support, and cleaned up with their resources.

So now they're leaving. Ford sold the Jaguar team to Red Bull. Honda cut and ran. BMW have dumped what remains of the Sauber team on some investors with a dubious background and buggered off. Well done guys, was it worth all that cash? Mind, at least in the case of Ford and Honda they've left behind teams that have gone on to do well. I can't see what's left of Sauber doing well if they make the grid next year, and I can't see the Toyota team doing well if they get bought out and make the grid either.
