*****Official 2013 BBQ Thread- it's sizzlin'!!!!*****

had the worst bbq ever yesterday. At a friends who doesnt own a proper bbq, so we ended up on the cheap disposable jobbies.Everything tasted of lighter fluid.

Veg has every right on a bbq, you just need a bigger/more bbq
Also need the space to cook all the flatbreads after all the meat is cooked and resting.

2 Saffers having a braai :)

12 friends came over - indirectly cooked a whole chicken on a bed of veg + direct method of burger patties, sausages, chicken pieces and lamb chops (was too sloshed to take any pics)

I have had 4 BBQ's this lasrt week.

The biggest and best being yesterday for 10 people.

Anyway I didnt manage to get any pics of my BBQ but I did that this pic today before I went to the bottle bank!

So I fired up my new Green Mountain Grill Jim Bowie yesterday to do pork belly & ribs

Belly was pretty good - could have done with a bit more cooking (would have got a better smoke ring too), I pulled it out when it reached around 78C but it could probably have done with another couple of hours maybe foiled. I don't like belly to end up "pulled" though as I think you miss out on the texture you get in belly

Ribs were good - 3hrs @ 110C, 2hrs foiled then an hour with BBQ sauce:

Next time the belly will need longer.

I'll be using the GMG a lot more over the next few weeks to try brisket & shoulder, but really impressed so far. The grill doesn't get as hot as charcoal might, but it's so easy to use and maintain it makes up for it. The cooking area is enormous too - I think I could comfortably do 2 pork butts, 2 good chunks of brisket and a lot of ribs & belly. Good job too as I have a BBQ for 40-50 people later on in the summer!

10 ppl and this was it?

I am not saying you need to get ****ed but if you post a pic in this manner, you are implying that its a lot of drink, which it is if there were only 3-4 ppl there, not 10 :p

Looks like 4ish beers each, plus spirits... enough to get me drunk :p.

This thread is making me incredibly jealous, but also providing a great source of motivation. The girlfriend and I are currently saving hard for our first house. We currently live in a rented flat. No garden = no home BBQ's :(.

Starter chimney works a treat. What i do it batton a couple small bits of wood add a little newspaper (or firelighter) to get the wood burning. Leave for 25 mins or so just enough so you can see the majority of coals are glowing. Then sling them into the BBQ.
