Lol...probably bit late now
Indeed.

So uhh, what’s the net change in points difference between Lando and Max after today? And what would happen if that RB is going to end up finishing P6/7 every race? If the McLarens, Ferrari and Mercs are now actually faster than the RB it could actually be on for Lando. But does he need to win every race if Max is only coming in say 5-7th?

from my reckoning, if lando comes in 2nd for every race left (8 nr) and Max finishes 5th then I think Lando wins the WDC by 2 points? Mathematically possible even if McLaren don't prioritse Lando - but they would need to finish 1/2 to make it work... obviously relies on the RB being as slow as it has become and to finish 3rd or lower....

Well, i think the strat should have started at Hungary. Working it actually out. +7 points there. Switched drivers today, +2. That gives us 250 points for Norris, 303 for Max. 53 point gap. But if you include the daft dive from Piastri today and Norris/Piastri had come home with a 1/2. Norris would have another 10 extra points. 260 to 303, 43 point gap with 200 points up for graps still. Norris has given up 20 points in 4 races. It's obvs still possible but you kinda need to take every point you can get when you're in Lando's position going into the 2nd half of the season. McLaren haven't set up to do that, they've arsed about. Max will win by 10 points or something.

Max isn't going to come 6th/7the every race til the end. If he did and Norris came in the top 3, i think there would be enough races to close the gap. Would go to the wire

Great race. Imola can be so dull.
Glad ferrari rolled the dice. Would have been dull. If they didn't.

Great race and leclerc was driver of the day.

Glad piastri beat norris.

RBR, could well come 3rd in WCC. Amazing

Completely missed this.

Seen result, McLaren got to start with the team orders. There’s still plenty races left to make up the gap even if it is huge.

It’ll be good to see RBR not winning the championship due to their second driver been so far down the peking order - even more so after giving him a new contract!!

Totally agree.

McLaren should have had an agreement something like that if one driver is well ahead of the other in the standings by the summer break, then team orders would come into play to help them win the WDC.

As you say, I reckon Norris is going to lose the WDC by a small margin, and would have won it if McLaren hadn't flubbed things in the last few races.

To quote the great MB "A day late and a dollar short". It amazes me with these teams that with all of the resources they keep making monumental mistakes with strategy.
Hindsight is a wonderful tool and can make even an idiot look intelligent, or vice versa. ;) It works for me
I personally feel it is right to let them race, otherwise the other half of the fans would be complaining that the results are fixed. The teams can't win really.
But Oscar's move around the outside was audacious and Norris was caught out by something he wasn't expecting. Oscar was super aggressive and Norris did well to avoid a collision.
No doubt the team will be reminding Oscar he is part of a team, not out for whatever he can get. He totally ruined Mclaren's strategy. https://www.skysports.com/f1/news/1...n-say-team-bosses-zak-brown-and-andrea-stella

Or - and it might be harsh to Norris - is this not a case of Norris 'flubbing' it?

I also agree that McLaren should be putting some more serious team orders in place at this point if they genuinely are backing Norris to win the WDC - but he doesn't exactly help himself does he?

7 poles has resulted in 0 lap 1 leads, that's on Norris and not on McLaren.

It really does also highlight how poorly thought Norris' comments were about Max and Hamilton when he said both should have won as many races as they did when their cars were fastest. Lando's had the quickest car since Miami and has won just 2 races in the last 10, you don't get gifted a WDC (unless it's 2021 and Michael Masi rewrites the rulebook on the final lap).

Really?

I'd rather have a different champion, and another Brit too.

Or at the very least a really tight/close battle at the end of the season.

Yeah I'm not to interested in WDC I watch more now for the individual races as events. Lost a lot of interest when f1tv was blocked in the big picture

Personally I'm quite happy with how mclaren are playing it
Agreed. People wanted racing, and they're getting racing. With team orders it would've been another procession, and it's clear that Norris isn't anything special at this point.

I'd rather see Max win again and have McLaren race each other. Unless RB fix their car, which is unlikely given where we are in the season, it's going to be incredibly dull.

I also don't think Norris deserves the title. He's not in the same conversation as Max, Lewis and Alonso.

I expect Oscar himself is conscious that if he isn't seen to be competitive at the sharp end now, he might end up being defacto number 2 next season, so now is the time to make his point that he's every bit as fast as Norris.
He has Mark Webber as his manager so you can imagine that he's throwing out the same warnings of becoming the #2 driver.

I haven't ever warmed to Lando (Once Lewis retires my British hopes will be pinned on Bearman going forward or I'll become honorary Spanish/Australian for Sainz/Piastri) so I've been enjoying watching him have to eat some humble pie. Just because Lewis and Max have made domination look easy he thought he could do the same now he is getting a wake up and I am here for it.

"It's going to be dull"? We now have a number of teams who, depending on the track, look like they can win races. Because Red Bull aren't in amongst those for now its suddenly become dull, really? Pretty sure it was duller at the start of the season when Red Bull were winning and no one else was close.

I don't know, I'm not possessed with the ability to read minds :D
