***Official*** 9800GX2 thread (reviews and benches inside)

I don't remember saying it was a single card, the fact is its 2x cards no matter how you look at it, the X2 is a single card as its cores are on the same PCB, the GX2 is 2x seperate cards, just one of its cards has had the PCI-E connector hacked off, and then its been stuck to the other one.

I don't have a problem with the card as such. You said yourself the prices would drop on these. So why not hold out for a few weeks?. Do you desperately need a card now?, It's not like there are any decent games to play at the moment anyway. Anything that is decent is years old and plays just fine on a GTX at 2560 res anyway.

Your post was an open bait you called out 3870 users and called them stupid and 'LOL'ing at them, yet you bought a £400 card when;

A. The prices on these will drop dramatically, think 3870X2 price drop after release.

B. The real next gen is only round the corner, seriously.

You fail to see things any other way than from your personal needs. I've always bought high-end enthusiast gear, when its released, the price isn't such a problem to me. Loads of people buy new cards/CPU's when they first come out, even when they know the price will go down not long after, but they still do it. Doesn't make 'em stupid.

I know the next gen is around the corner, and i'll get whatever next gen card is fastest. Because thats what us enthusiasts do.

I know most most of you will fail to understand this, because your looking at things from the position your in and/or your financial status. And again, the view you have about there not being any decent new games is your own view, not mine. So again it's different for me.

At the end of the day I think most people who have bought this card can justify the money spent on it and why shouldn't they its a passion for hardware we all share, some people spend silly money on fags and booze and don't get to keep anything. I'm still thinking about getting this card but at the moment I don't play enough games to warrant the cash. Be interested to see what it clocks like in the hands of the right people :D Then I might get one as I would get £200 for my GTX so i'm only looking at £200 for a upgrade and new toy ;)

And if people think the next gen cards are going to be out in a couple of months there bonkers, just my guess but I can see them coming just in time for Christmas.

i own a 2900xt,it plays the games i like at the res my moniter can handle(no its not a 800x600 moniter before you ask lol),

was going to upgrade to a 3870x2 when i saw them, the crossfire x was tempting.

but the g200 and r700 look a bit closer to realse than i 1st thought.

so im holding out for now,

ok the |Nvidia x2 is ok on paper/benchmarks.. but not as future prof as i would like.

by that the new gen g200 will/should smoke it.

also im hoping the crossfirex lets ATi 3870x2 users mix there card with the 4870x2 for 4 mixed gpu...that would most likely sway me to get a 3870x2 prior to r700 release.

but 400+ for 9800gx2 is way to much, considering the life span of the card till next gen.

one of the reasons i never got a 2900xt i just got the pro and flashed it.

Again irony, you laugh at people with the 3870X2 but what if it meets their personal needs?

Ok lack of common sense, you don't know me or others financial positions some of us just THINK before a purchase, smart purchasing doesn't have to reflect on a persons financial position so if you'd be so kind to get off your high horse.

I know the next gen is around the corner, and i'll get whatever next gen card is fastest. Because that what us enthusiast do.

Good for you but I'll have more money to pocket having dodged this pointless upgrade which I can put towards more hardware or car stuff.

I know most most of you will fail to understand this, because your looking at things from the position your in and/or your financial status.

Again, this is exactly what you have done throughout the whole thread.

And again, the view you have about there not being any decent new games is your own view, not mine. So again it's different for me.

What do you intend to play with the card often?

so why exactly did you go from an 8800GTX to a 9800GX2 ?

What games can't you play at max settings? (Except Crysis)

I went from a 8800GTS 320 to a 9800GX2, thats a very large upgrade mate.

And great, awesome, Will and Loadsa have turned up to drag the thread into the gutter with comments they have already posted ten times in other threads. I think ill move to diferent forums.

Jeez, just spent 10 mins of my life that I won't get back reading this thread...

I was hoping for some reviews and benchies from owners as the thread title suggested, but all I see is arguing?!!

Really, I don't see why anybody should get so upset at somebody spending their own money on something they want and that they will enjoy. What is the problem with some people?

Enjoy your cards you 9800GX2 owners, and don't forget to tell us what they perform like! :)

The reviews and benchies are all in the first post so you obviously didn't spend that 10 minutes well :(

No one is upset. It's a controversial card you can't blame people for having their opinion on it.

People will always be critical, If everyone praised their purchase how boring would this place be.

It's the graphics forum the 'Arguing' or how I prefer to put it 'Heated debate' will always be present.

I didnt laugh at people with the X2, i laughed at people with the X2 plus a 3870XT. When a GX2 is a better and more quiet option for the same sort of money.
Why dont you knock these people?? when to you, buying those 2 cards should be an even more stupid thing going from the arguments your've made?? Considering there around the same price and performance, but would also produce more heat and more noise.

Ok lack of common sense, you don't know me or others financial positions some of us just THINK before a purchase, smart purchasing doesn't have to reflect on a persons financial position so if you'd be so kind to get off your high horse.
So the many people of this forum alone that buy things when they first come out, are basically stupid in your opinion?

What do you intend to play with the card often?
COD4, DiRT, Oblivion, ET:QW to name a few... all these games are either just playable at 2560x1600 or not. The GX2 will allow me to play them smoothly at that res, but also with AA and/or AF.

I'm going to install Vista SP1 now so we'll have to carry this on later...

I agree with Tooks,

If you can afford it and want it, buy it.

What's the deal with affordability here, are the people who buy £400 cards one of a kind or something?

I just spent over £500 on my car, buying this card wouldn't even dent my wallet ;)

If not, shut it :p

Great contribution, this is a discussion forum, these thread aren't about praising the owners of the new card but rather offering your own opinion whether they like it or not. If the discussion stays within the rules there isn't an issue here.

I can afford any hardware I want.

But it has to pack a punch.

The GX2 is a waste of money.Badly designed (just like the 7950GX2) and not fast

enough to warrant a new name.
