**Official ABIT IP-35 Pro Review/Overclock/Guide Thread**

Finished my build last week and am now waiting for some RAM to be replaced...
In the meanwhile I'm thinking...:D
I want to initially just keep my setup with 'stock' equipment. I intend to OC later (and very slowly...that's because I'm new to all this...).
I have not touched the BIOS yet.
What would you recommend for initial BIOS settings?
Cheers

Just a quick question guys.....

Will there be any prob if I buy a pcie tv card, cos I may of missread but someone saying something about the main pcie x16 slot never worked if you had something in the pcie x1 aswel.
So are any of you guys using the pcie x1 slot?

which speed ram?

Hi fella's .. i just got my IP-35 pro XE and Q6600 from OcUk ( ta! )..., now i'm looking for Ram and noticed many posts list using PC2-6400, so my question is should i go for that or for some PC2-8500C5 ??

I'm a noobie to major overclocking , my current experience of it is clocking my P4 3.4 to 3.672!!! so i'll be happy getting the Q6600 2.4 to 3.2 as most posts mention this is fairly straight forward to achieve.

My usage is heavy on 3D apps video/music editing and lots of UT3 using 32bit XP pro Sp2 .. so can anyone recommend some Ram sticks for me that don't have any issues with this mother board.

Many thanks in advance to anyone who answers.

( i AM looking through all the threads here and in memory and will do at the Abit forums too)

PC2-6400 will be more than enough for a Q6600. G.Skill memory always comes highly recommended for Abit boards.

Do you want 2gb or 4gb (bearing in mind that a 32bit OS will only give you access to ~3.25gb).

I'm not using the x1 slot myself, but I can't remember hearing about the issue you mention. Buff would know better, or you can search the threads over at XS and Abit here and here.

thanks cob.. i'm planning on 2 x 2 gb because i might go 64bit in the future. G skill does indeed seem to get lots of thumbs up ...

the IP35 Pro is unique afaik in terms of a P35 mobo with CF capability in that it always has all PCI-E slots working in whichever config (others disable the x1 if both x16 & x4 are in use, it's all due to no. of PCI-E lanes available & how the manufacturers chose to allocate them).

Edit: Sorry I Read that completely wrong buff, so all 3 pcie slots work on the abit board? I must have that reading disorder, Its sooo anoying when I read stuff all upside down and back to front, bet you guys must think im a right tit.

yes.
P35 has 22 PCI-E lanes & on most mobos they use 1 for the JMicron or equiv. for PATA & 1 for ethernet which leaves 20 left - enough for x16 + x4 but not x16 + x4 + x1.
On the IP35 Pro abit elected to use a PCI based LAN controller (the IP35-E & IP35 use a PCI-E based controller) to allow for x16 + x4 + x1.

Anyon noticed with when you put the system into sleep mode, it will wake up with usb mouse/keyboard even if you disable the "usb wake up" in the bios. Thats with bios version 17.

Dont have that problem though some people have reported that they have difficulty getting into the bios with a USB keyboard, usually with a raid setup.

Yeh, so basically the "wakeup on usb" option does nothing for me, its always enabled even when Ive disabled it. Come on abit guys get your acts together with these bios releases:D, You fix 1 thing and brake another:D

My Vista X64 box will go into S3 hibernate (fans/psu off) but I can't seem to wake it up with keyboard/mouse

The only way I can get it to "wake up" is to press the power button again but if I do it goes through the bios/raid bootup screens agan.

How do I make it just wake straight up using the keyboard or mouse!

I have it enabled in the BIOS.

the following shows:-

C:\Users\Jo>powercfg -devicequery wake_armed
Microsoft USB IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0 (001)
Microsoft USB Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 (IntelliType Pro) (001)

that my keyboard and mouse are able to wake up the OS but it doesn't!

My experience with hibernate/suspend is that S3 Suspend works much better and faster than S3 Hibernate. Hibernate has to go to the trouble of saving an image of the RAM contents to the hard drive, which with a lot of RAM can take quite a while. Also the pc is fully shut down so you have to go through the boot sequence on resume from hibernate.

Suspend just puts the pc to sleep keeping the RAM contents loaded so all I have to do is power up and I'm ready to go before my screen has switched on. You run the risk of a power failure wiping the RAM but I doubt that anyone would be mad enough to suspend a system without saving whatever they had been doing...

As to the wake-up, I use a Guru Clock form an older Abit mobo to switch back on, never tried waking up using the k-board... but afaik it just has to be enabled in the Bios... as I said, never tried it though!

Hi all,

been trying to get wol working, can send a recieve packet when booted, but when sleeping or hibernating or shudt down, the nic leds dont remain lit so it doesnt listen for the magic packet. i have an abit ip35 pro board, have tried various power settings, nic settings, bios settings, but to no avail! Bios v17.

any ideas?

cheers

steve

When you use suspend to ram(hybrd sleep) it saves to disk aswell, so If you have power loss no problem

Have you disabled the "allow windows to turn off this device to save power" option? Dunno if it makes any difference but worth a try...
