*** Official AMD 7990 Owners Thread ***

Probably need to take it out back and shoot it...but it has been my faithful companion all these years. It was doing it's job until the new kid on the block came in all high and mighty, calling out the old timer.

Still it gets a good score benching compared to some of todays i-processors.

I thought they took it when you pre-ordered, when did you order..?

My ocuk order still says in warehouse que, was hoping they came in today so I could get ready to install it for a weekend of gaming

When it comes to coil whine, mine seems to settle down after I put it under water.
I can hear the whine when I launch a game, but it fades fast and gets lost in the fan noise.

Have tried to overclock and bench in the same scene in Crysis 3. Using Afterburner with ULPS off, and unofficial overclok with powerplay.

1100/1520 - 40 fps 65-70% usage on cores
1000/1500 - 40 fps 80-85% usage on cores

This is on 13.8 B2.

What are you others seeing?

If running at max settings I would say you are around 20fps-40fps short of what the cards are capable of, depending on scene.

During the logos the card will be running at like 3000fps, that is why it whines. :)

Hey guys,

I'm thinking of picking up the MSI 7990 that OcUK got in stock. Just wanted to ask whether anyone has the MSI one or anyone who could fill me in on the temps, noise etc. Been searching for reviews and such but seem to only manage to find PowerColor one which was decent.

They all are reference AMD so should not matter what name is before, just what gets bundled with it.

I always go water on dual GPU cards, but the fan solution on this is much better than the 6990 was. I ran it a limited time on fans in my Fractal D Arc midi r2 and had temps around 85 during full load (stock clocks). The fan nosie was on par with my other case fans on full blast (to move all that hot air out). Keep in mind that my CPU was under water at the time and with a air cooled one you will have higher temps and more air to expel out.

On thing i have not been able to do is overclock much, but this can be my CPU holding me back. Need to look further into that to determine if that is true.

It gave me a nice bump from my old 6990 and for the first time (with 13.8 b2 drivers) I have a stutter free Crysis 3 on highest settings :)

hi there, just received my msi 7990 , and just setting a few things up......ive noticed in ccc there is no option to enable/disable cross fire.....is this normal? as when I had 2 x hd6950s the option was there......

You can't disable internal crossfire.
IIRC you used to be able to disable catalyst AI or something which would pretty much stop the crossfire from working.

I guess you can't disable it on a 7990 otherwise you should have option like this.

With ULPS on, the Zero core tech will turn off the other core when not under load.

CR is always on as the bridge is on the card and you can not control it.

Edit: When the other core is off you can see a led light turn on on the back side of the card
