*** Official AMD 7990 Owners Thread ***

Has overclocking ever been fixed on the 7990?
From reading reviews most seem to show when overclocked theres no gain...others show theres a small gain but also a loss on some games when overclocked and most reviews say they hope this issue is fixed.

"Performance is really all over the place from strong gains, to no change, and to a general chunk of FPS being taken off sometimes."
"Looking over reviews from other websites what we've noticed is that some have picked up on it and some haven't."
"There's clearly something going on with the overclocking side of things and we've reached out to AMD about it."

Was this ever fixed?

The cards were voltage locked at the start because afterburner had to be updated. Theres no problems now, just use the latest beta (15) of afterburner.

just seen the 7990 on another site for 480 inc golden ticket 3 other games and a free xfx 750watt psu.

seems a cracking deal, tempted to go for it but i don't have any experience dealing with them so i'm not sure what they're aftercare is like.

**** poor apparently according to the warranty sticky and comments I've read on here.

Hence why a friend and I bought ours from OcUK with the Friday deal. I'm not even sure that XFX psu would be up to the job anyway.

My card should arrive in 30mins apparently, I'm expecting good things :)

Thanks for the reply...What are these cards like for overclocking on air? My case is pretty well ventilated but i know these cards are quite hot even before overclocking.

Also im thinking about adding an 280x or 7970 or 7950...what would be the best option in your eyes? I presume the 7970 as its the same spec and then you would just up the clock speeds on the 7990 to match.

Not sure but you've asked in the right thread and one of the 7990 owners will pop up with their two cents.

Not too shabby at all...

Small increase on the voltage to 1220mV

Stable @ 1109/6500

Can certainly push a decent bit more out of the card no problem I'm sure.

I know I can get much more out of it on air.

I'm now out of the SUGO and into my 600T...basically the CPU was hitting 90C during load in the BF4 beta...so yeah needed my 240, rad back :p

I've just seen this and was considering to replace my Corsair TX750 PSU (Non-Modular, why did I buy non-modular!?) and what will probably be a GTX 670 FTW (after I re-shuffle my cards).
But EVGA and Corsair have good support (in my experience) but I've had no dealings with XFX. I believe their PSU were supposed to be good (re-branded Seasonics I believe?) but not sure about now.

It's very tempting but £480 is a lot, even after what I could get for selling my Corsair PSU and EVGA 670.

How are you finding your dual 7990's Toxic? You should post some benchmark scores of Firestrike, Valley etc.

Smashing chuffed to bits with them, can't say I was not a bit nervous with my first amd purchase in a long time but they have exceeded my expectations. All done n dusted with em now .... I wants me wee green shield back ;)

I'm also looking to buy one of these, it's just the fear of microstutter that puts me off. What is it like for you guys? If the gameplay isn't smooth as butter i will be p****d off.

Received mine on Friday. For the games i've tried (BF3, Farcry3 and a few others) I've ran into some issues, but they were all fixed if I tweaked 1-2 things in CCC.

Example: For farcry 3, I ran into stuttering with vsync on. I turned it off and it;s gone. I think you can use radeon pro to fix this if you want vsync on (dynamic vsync). This applied to MEtro last light as well.

Battlefield 3 I ran into some weird input lag and maybe some stutter (visually i couldnt see it but i can feel something was wrong).
Manually changed to AFR Friendly mode and it was fixed.

Not had a chance to play other games but so far I'm happy with it. I would however love it if I had G-sync tho, coz so far i feel 7990 will suffer from stuttering with standard vsync on in more games i havent tried.

Is anyone else seeing this? Seems like odd behavior, I would expect everything to be fine with vsync on.

I'll try mine tonight.

For bf3 anyway, I am keeping AFR friendly on ;)

Farcry 3 definitely suffering issues with Vsync on tho, I notice if i start running around and the fps will go from 59-61 allot. From my googling, radeonpro will fix it.

I am very sensitive to any stuttering tho, especially multiplayer fps. It needs to be "perfect".

Farcry 3 is a dog on multi gpu. You can get 99.9% smooth performance by disabling vsync in game. Then setting up a farcry 3 profile (using the farcry3 dx11 exe) using radeonpro. In radeon pro Change vsync to always on, tick triple buffering then tick lock fps to monitor refresh rate. Then click apply and load the game from radeonpro.

Very odd to get stutter in BF3, as fps shouldn't be dropping that low. Infact i don't know how you could manage to drop below 60fps unless you're playing above 1600p. One things for sure, your cpu will bottleneck bf3, so any issue there is likely as a result of that.

One thing you can try is reducing the load on the cpu in bf3. To do this try out this config file. Place it in your bf3.exe folder and see if it improves the stutter.
