Hm every now and then im getting that random desktop jump when the desktop will jump up the screen then back down. Somone on here mentioned it the other week with a faulty 7990. I hope its just a driver thing because this card seems perfect otherwise.

Yeah they're currently with their new owners. Just waiting for confirmation they've received them ok then i can lock my for sale thread. They will be missed, but the 7990 is a superior piece of kit. It just comes with a few extra caveats.

I'll run another bench for you now. :)

My advice. Positive pressure case, with lots of side exhaust fans. Essential for keeping temps low as possible and that keeps the fan silent.

When you get the card if you run at stock clocks (make sure you flash the bios i posted) then you can lower the voltage a bit to keep temps down.

I may need to do some rejiggery with my case setup then Matt, but I'm not sure how to go about improving it with the 7990 in mind. I have a 650d with one sole 200mm intake and have removed all obstructing hdd cages . I then have a 120mm rear exhaust and two 1850 GT fans set to push/exhaust out the top of my case. Air flow seems good, but it remains to be seen until the 7990 takes a heat dump in my case.
 
NZXT phantom 630 case. I flipped the 200mm side fan the other way so it is now exhausting air out. In total: 200mm intake front, 200mm outtake top & side and 140mm outtake back.

Seems to be a slight improvement (2-3C). I suppose I will see a bigger improvement come the summer? 2x200mm intakes in the summer would probably increase the temps more than just 1 at the front i assume

~72-73C in Heaven 4 (max 56% fan speed), it was ~75C before with 2x200mm intakes.
 
Ok so I received my msi hd7990 and I did not get my *free gift* and have been debating all day to either stick or twist and get a gtx 780. I have arranged for the hd7990 to go back, Though now in two minds as to keep it or not. I have a question regarding both micro stutter and LtMatts bios flash.

1: Does the new frame pacing reduce micro stutter and does it create any other noticeable issues?

2: LtMatt, Can I use your modded bios on this msi 7990? And what benefits will it give me if it does?

I have not had any stutter at all after the framepacing update.

All 7990 are the same no matter what letters you put in front (msi/asus/sapphire/xfx...)

Frame pacing is great and does not have any negative side effects.

Yes you can, It will ensure the card does not throttle which will result in better performance.
