*** Official AMD 7990 Owners Thread ***

I have flashed my asus with the v2 bios, everything sill stock with no overclocking, do I need to do anything with afterburner? such as increase the power limit to 20%.

Thanks

Do you guys find you can OC the mem much more than the core? i cant take my core past 1100 without it being stable no matter how much extra voltage i add but mem is up to 1670 at the moment and seems stable with abit more voltage.

Alex nailed it below me. :)

Spot on. That said i think its worth doing as the 7990 has such a low TDP the card tries to throttle even when running at stock and undervolted. However you need a demanding game to bring out this behaviour. Sleeping dogs extreme preset is a good example.

My first card did, the asus 7990 from ocuk. However even over the course of one day it got better.

My second XFX had no coil whine while browsing, but had a bit more during gaming. However its already started to fade and i believe it will vanish completely soon.

Hi

I have just got my new 7990 today, I have tired both AMD driver (the 13.9 and the beta 13.11), I have tried it on Batman Arkham origins, former driver perform poorly, something like 20-30fps, latter driver perform much better, most of the time 5x-8x fps. but still feel a bit lag during gameplay.
However they are both quite laggy on FIFA14, fps is fine, around 60 but very laggy. Is this because of the bios of my cpu is not good? However my cpu never go up to 100% during gameplay so I dont understand what is the problem...please help!

my spec:
intel i5 3550 3.3GHz (no overclock)
8gb ram
MSI 7990
MSI Z77A-G43
Antec 750w

Matt - I've updated BIOS but core voltage isn't changing when I change it in Afterburner. Was there an updated BIOS? I downloaded the one from your post on page 38 I think it is

Could you take a screenshot of MSI afterburner when running these games to see what is happening to your GPU utilisation, temps, core clocks etc. Your 3550 will bottleneck the 7990 as you can't really overclock it but I would have hoped for more than 30 fps on arkham origins.

After so many tests I have found out that after I fix it to 60fps then everything is smooth now :)

The bad thing is I dont have a dvi to dvi cable / minidisplay port - hdmi...just ordered from amazon...but it will reach me on wed..so I need to play in silent for two days...:(

How do I turn Crossfire off for a particular title I can't seem to figure it out. Planetside 2 is choppy under CF so I want to turn it off.

If you're not overclocking, make sure you go into settings of afterburner and turn ULPS off. Then put the power limit to +50 (max) and set to run at startup and apply overclock at startup.

Its the most recent one i posted mate. This one. http://www.sendspace.com/file/6iydbb

Let me know if that works or not.

Oh darn - ok ... will give this another shot this evening. I have a feeling I have a bad overclocker ... ASIC values of 60.9 and 65.3 ... but going with the lower ASIC value I guess.

I've stuffed my warranty already :( My case side is still open as I haven't put the window in and caught my finger in one of the fans. Yes ... you've guess it! I broke a fan blade. Might have to move forward the watercooling.

How long ago did you order? Can't you just say it arrived like that and you've only just had chance to use it? Did you order the asus one from ocuk? If so i will edit this post.

I noticed my Asus ocuk 7990 asic one had 66% asic and one 62% asic. Its really not ideal for multi gpu cards. It means one core will run much hotter than the other. Ideally you want them within a percent or two of each other. I'm glad i sent my Asus OcuK one back and went with a rival retailer. I got an XFX one with identical asics (AMD recommend binning for this so maybe Asus don't) and as a result both cores work well together and operate at identical temps.

By the way guys i have discovered that the 7990 has some hard coded TDP/Heat protection. Even with extended power tune and TDP limits the card will still cut off at a certain point. Nothing we can do to get around this im afraid. I encounter it in sleeping dogs at 1150/1650 @1.25v. The card cuts off before the bench completes. Otherwise id be beating 780SLI in that game. However the bios means that for anything but extreme overclocks we have enough wiggle room. I guess only with water cooling can you get around this problem.

Yeah I did order from OCUK. It's already an RMA replacement and I don't really mind as the heatsink is coming off soon - it's not vibrating that badly either. Just need to put a last order in for some fittings and test the updated BIOS.

I guess Asus didn't bin the GPUs :( Would have expected them to do so if recommended by AMD. Although saying that, I did find that the GPU temps were pretty close with one another last night. I just couldn't bump the MHz slider past 1050.

Sleeping Dogs benchmark ... doesn't come with the demo? Don't particularly want to pay for it :/
