***official amd 83x0 overclocking thread***

Can you lock the RAM speed on the Asus boards? I can't remember.

You can select the base memory frequency for a 200MHz bus clock as follows 1066|1333|1600|1866|2133 then any bus overclock modifies it so 225MHz clock gives 1.125x the above values or 225/200.

Maybe not all boards have the full range above but most go to 1866 I think.

If you only have 1600 ram and want a 300MHz bus clock, you would select the 1066MHz setting. I use 1333MHz setting to get 2000MHz memory at 300MHz bus.

The rest is down to the memory controller on the CPU as to the max frequency it will take.

Ah, I thought you might be able to lock the RAM speed at the same clock while changing the FSB. Some systems allow that.

This thread is really making me want to buy a Sabertooth and FX CPU just to play with it.

She sure is from the lab and she has the hulks blood in her veins dont make her angry lol

This pic is old since this I have added typhoons all round changed psu cables to green

Far from happy witg it much happier when gpu under water to but she packs a punch

How much of one will be proven tonight with gaming bench marks

Almodt home so will post next couple of hours

frps displayed this im sure bf3 has a benchmark console command where as crysis 3 doesnt

any suggestions on best game to benchmark on guys?

Some games have built in official benchmarks, e.g. Metro Last Light, Tomb Raider, Bioshock Infinite. Some run via console scripts.

What's very useful is a comparison of the 8350 at stock and at 4.8GHz.

Is your 7970 clocked above 1GHz by the way?

ran metro last light but only gave me frps?

what are you after in terms of results as i thought were after cpu?

yes gpu is over 1 ghz but only slightly as its voltage locked
core is 1050
memory is 1550

also that screenshot was awful score was 8.31 if u cant make it out lol

ok so i will test at stock then at 4.8 just say what to run i have all those games :p

Games like Crysis 3 are massively demanding on both the CPU and GPU, so it affects the results a lot. If you ran a Tomb Raider benchmark you'd get results that depend just on the GPU, see here:

Some other games are more CPU demanding and the increased clock speed will make a big difference.

Rather than locking the RAM speed, you can lower the RAM multiplier. I use to knock the multiplier down and up the fsb to i get the RAM to operate at its original speed, just with a lower multiplier.

Upping cpu nb voltage will increase your cpu temp but not by much and it will help you get less memory errors making your overclock more stable if you use a fsb overclock. A safe voltage which set it to straight away when playing with bus speed, is 1.3V for piledrivers (i always assumed it was the same as BDs).

I also up the RAM voltage to 1.65V for DDR3. Many RAM modules say maximum at 1.5V but if you have a browse round the memory forum, you will find that 1.65V does no harm and DDR3 stays too cool to worry about temperatures.

A FSB overclock does give you better benchmark results because of other components are being overclocked with it. However the highest overclocks are achieved with a mixture of both with a lot of trial and error.
