***official amd 83x0 overclocking thread***

I checked a different but reasonable vendor and even they aren't selling for so cheap. I guess they must want to clear the stock but that price is amazing.

It's like when I bought my GTX 470. The 570 and 580 had just come out and I got my 470 here on OCUK for £179. I had it nearly two years, fantastic card (used a Zalman VF3000 on it).

Then when they had all gone? that was it. No more 470s.

This is merely sites clearing stock as the 7990 was a flop at launch. Now though? with frame pacing it's a whole different ball game. No card, not even Titan, can come anywhere near this thing.

Andy are you using that PSU?

Would be interested.

Alex did you hear back from 8 pack?

Not yet mate no. I need to test the Alienware and can't do so for another couple of weeks. If the Alienware's PSU is fried I'll need it (that's why I'm not fussed about pretty much paying for it).

If I don't need it I'll let you know but it won't be soon. I'm moving house (in the process as we speak) and am packing etc. I just packed up all the PC stuff for the move (I'm taking it down myself in the car lmao, no one is touching my PC gear ! not even packed in boxes).

Alex, why not just cancel the order and get the Asus one?

Yes teppic I'm fairly loyal to ocuk and despite the £20-30 price difference I would still have bought the Asus one. The thing that drew me to the other one was the psu. I sent them a web note to say to cancel the order unless a psu was included but they sent it anyway! Ocuk customer service is just so much better.

I will still enjoy the card though.

Small mod to my lady's upcoming rig ! Today the acrylic I ordered to change the window colour arrived. I had a orange one in there to match the Cougar fans but it didn't look right with white fans.. So I ordered this stuff.

It's new. UV reactive pink. It glows. Here is here stuff.

And with the new window fitted. I'm going to use the left over pink to make her a SLI bridge cover :)

It's going to be one heck of an 8 core rig when I'm done :)

Pink and black have always been win, male, female or anything else lol.. All of mhy cars on NFS Underground were pink and black.

Will get a UV black light cathode, sorted :D bugger will glow :D

Thanks Alex ! yeah I'm dead proud to be building it for her.

She dug her heels in for ages, but, as she's tried later games on her laptop she's begun to realise she really does need a desktop to be a serious PC gamer.

We also bought her a laptop too ! and we got a great deal on it. It's an Asus ROG G73. Has a Sandy I7, 8gb ram, 500gb hdd etc with a GTX 460M which tbh is a desktop GTX 460 so it's no slouch and will easily slice through Sim City, Anna, Alice in Wonderland and the games she wants to play on her laptop. Got it for £500, they were £1800 new.

I know that a modern £700 laptop would be faster but they are £700. They're also not 17" and built like a tank. The Asus one has all of the features of a £1800 laptop tbh, really really nice unit.

That's it there. She also got a Google Nexus 7" lol so she's been really spoiling herself (and me) lately.

Very nice, I love the G73 and what an awesome price.

I still use a 2+ year-old alienware M18x with 6990s in X-fire. The thing still scores over 8000 on 3DMark 11 and is still on a Sandy i7 2920XM. Getting the latest and greatest in laptop terms is fairly pointless as they are generally still at 1080p and they cope well with this sort of hardware. Unless of course one hooks their laptop up to a 1440p monitor, in which case the newer haswell varieties and dual GTX 780Ms would be nice. But then, why not just get a desktop. Even the mobile Haswell chips bottleneck the 780Ms.

HAHA awesome :D I have a M11X which is my daily beater. Just had a new keyboard fitted under warranty and needs a new cooler with fans etc but that's all under warranty.

TBH when buying her a laptop I wanted something built like a tank. Even if it meant getting less performance than a modern one, as her HP is just over a year old and is beaten to heck. All of the numbers and letters have worn off the keys and the fan has died (it's so screwed).

She's getting a desktop too. But she really has to have a laptop tbh. She won't sit at a desk so she'll only game on the desktop with a 360 pad and the PC on the TV.

Wow, really nice rig mate ! you're gonna love it !

I would have ordered the 8320 though, there really seems to be no difference.. Mind you, amazing what you can get for £787.. If you haven't ordered it yet ditch the PSU. OCZ are about to declare bankruptcy or be bought out so the warranty could be sketchy. There's an EVGA one on special for around £83 on here, get that mate.

will change the psu, from what ive seen tho about the 8350 is slightly better overclocking with less volts.will be doing a custom loop on the cpu in a few months so will be pushing it

Hey guys been a while work is crazy busy atm coming to end of the season and our team car is showing its age having to pull long hours between races
so haven't had chance to have much input here sorry guys!

so first i cant believe asking a quick question would pull all you guys out in force to build this community we have now, so well done you guys to help build it up and work together to help each other out :D

had chance today after f1 (well done seb) :D:D:D:D:D lol

to test rig @ 4.9GHz and after testing with prime (which failed after 1/2 hour), intel burn test passed but that aint best program as it can pass even when it should fail ran aida64 for a while just fpu only (nice and toasty) and that didn't fail

ran cinebench and got 779 before @ 4.8GHz was 769 so gained there (higher speed ram needed as my patriot wont clock) grrrrrr!

gamed for hour or so and no probs lock ups blue screen ect so i would say im stable @ 4.9GHz atm :D

some pics of bios & benchmarks to help you guys :D
