***official amd 83x0 overclocking thread***

This one?

Thats the one read loads online bout it, people say gpu overheating or too high of a overclock but my gpu only reaches 51, its goes higher upto 64 on skyrim and sleeping dogs with high res dlc so I know its not heat.

And overclock I cant overclock my gpu much as its voltage locked also why have a £350 card if I cant overclock it? Works fine clocked on any other game. Bf3 did same I think Im done with dice and ea tbh there still having same probs as old game they haven't progressed here

I asked farmerboy to try out overnight the folding@home client and see how the FX-8 performed. Can anyone else give it a go?

Will give it a shot tonight m8 totally forgot tbh soz will post results tomorrow. As im new to it how should I run it settings ect?

Also my buddy back so will ask him bout bits for you dude

We got a great community going here keep up all the work guys we shall hide in fear no more lmao :p

Hey all, new member to the group here.
Got my 8320, sabertooth and h80 tucked away in a drawer waiting for the rest of the system to be bought.

thinking of going for the corsair 540 case but still undecided on which GPU.

I'm slowly reading through the thread but most of its going over my head at the moment.
I'll be back asking for lots of help when I get it all up and running :)

welcome famas! that's what were here for ask away and we will do our best to help,

great group of guys here glad to help have fun :D

I would run it after installing just the CPU's, if your leaving it overnight put it on the option down from full. Monitor your temps, this will also check your cooling is able.

Let me know about your buddy, I will be on a charity event tomorrow till late afternoon. I will be around after if you don't find out before then.

Let's keep the momentum up and maybe even get into some games when all is stable! :D

ok will give it a shot tonight ;)

he is coming round tomorrow so will let u know asap

yeah we should all get into a game post some ideas guys of what we should play? great bunch of guys lets get our game on!

i will kick off by saying i play payday2, most shooter games, racing games

Hi guys, just built an 8320 system on a gigabyte 990FXA UD3. I am using g skill ripsaws z 16gb 1866 MHz memory as I already had the spare kit ( it is quad channel). The 8320 over clocks fine to 4.7+ ghz at good temps but the minute I try to put the memory above 1600 MHz, it crashes. The only timings it likes at 1600 are very loose - 11,11,11 28

Is the quad channel kit, which occupies all the ram slots, giving the IMC a headache? Should I just get a good dual channel kit such as a 2 x 8 gb kit?

have you upped the ram voltage? try 1.6v or 1.65v

Similarly, I had the same problems with my GPU as farmerboy. Ran fine at 1200/1400 on the old system, but display driver kept crashing once CPU clocked

did you find a fix for this ^^ orch? I still cant run bf4 or 3 since cpu overclock, but i can run any other game which is really odd.

still rock solid @ 4.8ghz :D

ordered my gpu waterblock so whole system be under water soon

I tried increasing my cpu/nb to 2600 and got an ntoskrnl problem on boot up. My gigabyte 990FXA-UD5 is being awkward with my 8320. Turning off core performance boost stops the voltage and frequency jittering about but introduces a bug where it shuts off at boot-up and comes back on of it's own accord a few seconds later. (whether it's a restart or a cold boot)

So far I've managed 4.2GHz (200x21 @+ 0.025V LLC @ high) and temperatures via AVX linpack peak around 61. (but i'm using a noctua NH-L12 due to space constraints) Inital attempts at increasing bclk and working from there resulted in failed post.

first off evening all :D

did you increase cpu/nb voltage and ht link while putting them at 2600?

cause i had blue screens for this increasing voltage cured this for me :)

Hi guys I will edit first post with cpu and board being used and at what clock your running

Also will add ram if you wish? Add your detail and I'll type it all up :D

Also on ram note anyone using patriot viper black mamba 1600 mhz ram and had success overclocking it? I cant get system to boot if I overclock I have upped voltage to 1.6 and loosened timings but no success

OK not to worry.

sorry dude felt like i got ya hopes up been working on every ones specs what you think?

tweaks? ideas welcome.

more rig specs needed please, then i will edit first post to this :p

here were all about the red uprising against the blue devil, whatever your weapon of choice from the 83x0 range you'll find tips on how to tweak that chip into a fire breathing dragon. We have a great community of helpful guys and we all chip in as best we can to solve the teething problems of overclocking.

below is a list off members who have helped build the community and the thread and the specs of there boards, chip, voltages and ram to give newcomers a idea of whats commonly used with these chips

Also throughout the thread you will find many tips and posts of various rig setups and what works and doesn't ;)

have fun and feel free to ask any questions and the guys and myself will be glad to help

here is what i have so far guys what you think? ideas? things to improve

A few too many variables IMO. much depends on the skill and knowledge of the forum member as well as the abilities of the board.

Board and power phases is OK but

A Simple list

Recommended boards
Marginal minimum spec boards
Not recommended boards

this could be added to or argued about much like the cool board on Top Gear.

Up to the OP really, I don't want to distract his thread, but I could edit my Post #2 to show a cool board.

if you wanna edit your post for the good the bad and the ugly of boards and mention about 4+1 to avoid that be great. :)

i will start benchmark leaderboard tomorrow night anyother boards we should have up?

Hey guys reading through and your all making strides with the overclocking :)

Sorry not much input of late and haven't finished first page on your rigs, but im working away from home for 3 weeks and it will take forever off my phone lol.

Once im back I'll get on to it.

Can't wait to carry on with my project and hit 5ghz after reading posts :( but have race cars to keep me happy till then lol

Good to see the thread growing well done guys

Just ordered an XSPC RayStorm 750 EX240 kit for my CPU. Be good to see how far this will let it be pushed and see if it's much better than high end air.

This is what I have on my 8350 m8 @ 4.8 with 1.44v it idles at 27 socket and under prime its maxed at 56 socket, 45 core I have gentle typhoons in push pull on rad and all case fans are also typhoons gaming it hits 37 core I also have the vario d5 pump @ setting 4 out of 5
