***official amd 83x0 overclocking thread***

H80 so yeh 120mm Rad. Couldn't fit a 240mm in without hacking the case to bits so best i could do really

external rad? a idea perhaps tbh i found that the perform worse than air, has it got stock fans?

could try push pull with say typhoons or sp 120's but i doubt it would make a huge difference

also i posted here way back at beginning that placement of rad helps a lot, is yours on exhaust as all the hot air gets pulled through rad adding to the heat.

if you have top fan and your cooler on rear try having cooler blow in and top fan exhaust least rad gets cold air that way.
you will get sluightly negative pressure causing tad more dust but may help temps, so to recap

have front, rear, side, and bottom as intake top as exhaust as heat rise anyways. cool air coming through rad is a must, ifound exhaust on rad gave increase of temps

Just turned the fans and pump to full speed . . FPU test was 10° cooler!!

So yeh, new fans needed i think! Some great suggestions there mate, having the rad take air in and exhaust out the top is a great idea.

goes to show its your cooling and yeah having rad on intake makes a lot of difference i found. whats point of sucking hot air from in case into rad, only gonna add to heat which is complete oposite to what u want :D

Will post over the next few days matey.

5ghz just doesn't want to play. I thought I was stable yesterday but not prime stable and the pc just felt a little strange to use.

Happy at 4.9ghz and BF3 is great to play ultra at around 80 - 90fps :)

Cheers dude would be good to see

And bf3 80-90 what more could you want good going.

Im still gonna push for 5ghz just to say I did it or thats the plan I think its doable with low voltage and temps I currently have, plenty of head room

Hi Guys

Some 5Ghz Goodness

Tried her under water today, big waste of time. With a twin rad and EK block (i already had so no cash spent) Temps were up higher than the Dark Rock Pro 2, so thats back on now.

Seen my temps get into the 80's at 5Ghz but hey for a £115 chip I'm not complaining.

Have her settled in at 4.8 with a 4 core turbo of 5Ghz need to enable C states now and enjoy some power saving!!

Most fun I've had since my Bulldozer back in 2011.

I thought c state had to be disabked for stability when overclocking

They must be so good that farmerboy has not been here for a while assumed gaming his face off!! :D

Hey guys sorry I aint had any input last few days fiance was gonna shoot me as I spent all weekend tryung to hit 5ghz ooppps!

The thread is coming along nicely now pleased to see you guys are getting on well some not so well which is a shame.

I would agree your board maybe reaching vrm thermal limits orch 990 motherboard good investment.

Th0nt components update friend is on hols tried to contact weekend he's back friday so will get him to talk to you.

My own progress rock solid at 4.8 ghz temps are good hit 47 socket 36 core after hours of bf3 prime stable the fan over vrm on mobo a big help and push pull on rad with 4 typhoons keeping everything cool

Again good job on thread guys lets keep it up how do we make a sticky out of this?

Use speed fan tricky to set up but better asus fan xpert is rubbish ask anyone on here I uninstalled it does its own thing grrr.
Either speed fan or buy a fan controller dude. Its an expensive hobby but when its all going well best gaming platform by far

Excellent - thanks mate!

Really happy for you, I would be well chuffed with that setup - a solid performer.

Cheers m8 yeah cuffed a couple months ago i couldn't get padt 4.5 on air, now under water prime and intek burn test stable at 4.8. Gonna jot down all settings and push for 5ghz now just to see if I can.

Considering im so low on temps and 1.44v I think I can hit 5 no sweat just worried board may not cope that high :s

evening all so got home at 5 trying for 5ghz got 4.9 ghz prime stable 1hr stable no voltage increase from 4.8ghz @ 1.44v and look at these temps

1 hr stable so far cool and not so quiet lol i think i have a rare gem in this chip will continue to test but making progress

before you say that aida64 aint been running 1 hr i ran prime first went 1 hr, mor than enough people say 24 ect but if prime is gonna fail it will take less than 24hrs im now running aida64 just to see.
i will run as many tests as possible

Hmm have you got the northbridge under water?

I'm gonna have to order a case that would accommodate the H100 (2x120mm fans).

North bridge not under water as vrm heatsink is linked to nkrth bridge heatsink via a pipe was thinking of cut pipe so I can remove and replace north bridge with water block? Unless anyone knows of a vrm north bridge water block

After looking at my friend google he tells me a lot of people have cut the pipe connecting vrm and North bridge heatsink, and the fitted a waterblock to the north bridge.

Now where did I leave that hacksaw? May try this tomorrow as im gonna buy a new board soon, nothing to loose.

A fan may help ;) but being a mechanic tinkering is in the blood nothing to loose gonna order new board thursday, because 5ghz no go system boots to windows and just switches straight off :(

Which board would you guys sugest sabertooth or formula z. People see to say sabertooth r2 over formula z any reason as to why? Always thought rog board was better

damn you farmerboy!! now im pricing up a new board!! :D

Lol sorry dude thats all this thread seems to have done tbf. Making you all tgink of upgrades my bad! Lol

Been working loads of overtime to pay for my dream system looks like I've started a shopping spree here

As to which board most say crosshair is best for clocking so think thats my choice as its what im after best clocking board possible
