*Official* Antec P182 Case's,Builds,Modifications & FAQ's

:) Glad you both like it

I cut a rectangle out in the side panel then bolted a piece of 2 way mirror acrylic to the side. It works in the same way as a 2 way mirror.
When there are no lights on inside the case, the side panel is a mirror but when I you switch the cathodes on inside, the panel becomes translucent.

Guys,

Which way should my power supply fan be facing? Atm its facing down...

I just read a review (lost the link ) that said that the psu fan should be facing up???

So who's right; what's the best approach :)

Cheers,

SW.

Heat rises, PSU should be drawing cool air in.

Down.

^ Just that alone probably counts as spam so uhm...what to write to not make it spam? I mean I don't really want it to come out as spam but it would look that way if lots of following text didn't get posted.

Hmmm what to type!

Very nice! Thanks! The diagramme in there was very useful... useful in confirming that this isn't in fact a P180/2, but some custom-designed case Antec made for some OEM or another (probably Asus, since there was a sticker on the inside side panel explaining how to install an Asus motherboard:p).

It seems to be lacking the middle fan that's supposed to go behind the upper 3.5" drive cage, although there's space for a fan to go in front of that same drive cage...

It also has a weird plastic thing that screws on top of the expansion slots and has an 80mm fan holder inside it, presumably to blow air onto the graphics card (I've removed it, at least for the time being, I'd rather use one of those Zalman brackets and fit a bigger fan on there).

It doesn't have the scifi-looking cover for the top fan, although there's a few notches up there which suggest it's supposed to have it and it's simply missing. Doesn't look as cool without it, but functionally doesn't matter. Small loss considering I got this for only £20.

The weirdest thing about it (and I don't know if it's just this or all P180/2 cases) is that there's a small plastic compartment on the side of the upper 3.5" drive cage that can be opened and closed with a little clip. There's space for maybe a few screws and a small screwdriver in there, so I assume that's what it's for, but it's still a bit of an "eh?" moment looking at it wondering why your big massive metal case has a small black plastic case inside it!

Sounds to me like an early P180. P182 is a slightly different design.

Even on the P182 there is no fittted fan on the 3.5" cage BTW. Its optional.

Yes, the plastic box is weird, but turns out quite useful. ;)

TBH I did not think it would matter that much in this case as the bottom is split from the top of the case with a divider so the only hot air being drawn into the PSU would be from the HD's in the front bottom rack !
Also the block that the PSU is going to sit on in the bottom of the case may slightly obstruct the intake fan on some PSU's . Just an obsorvasion after all.;)

I'm seriously considering the P182...has anyone fit a 120.2 in the roof? Will it fit with ease?

Give me a few days and i'll have an answer for you, im working on 3 P182's at the moment.

1 has a 240 mounted externally on the roof
1 has a 240 mounted internally in the roof
1 has a 360 mounted internally in the roof

a 114mm holesaw and it's a real pita to cut because the case is made from crazy strong steel. Just had to go and buy a new saw becuase after I had put it through the roof 3 times it was pretty much blunt.

This is the one with the 240 on the roof externally, i'll get some pics of the internals soon.

What brand holesaw do you use? I bought a cheapo variety pack awhile back and tried drilling some holes in my mobo tray...it just ground the teeth away and didn't even make a hole! It said it was suitable for cutting sheet metal..... argh

At the moment I think it's a Starite one, can't remember what the old one was off top of my head. I always use cutting fluid now as well to try and make them last a bit longer. Might look into gettin a 114mm hole punch in the New Year, they cost over a ton though.

Nice work Marcus!!
Thank you very much :D

Marcus is that a black ice GTS radiator?
That is indeed a Black Ice 240 GTS

I finished this case / cooling off last night and it will be dispatched today. Heres some pretty photos I took of it whilst leak testing.

Will have pictures of the internal setups soon. ;)

Ah yes I realise it's optional, I didn't mean the fan itself, I meant the fan mounting :) Thediagrams in the manual and the website showed space for a fan to bolt onto BEHIND the drive cage, whereas on this case it's in front of it,right up against the front cover.
i'm pretty sure it's an Antec custom case for an OEM, as it's got their name all over the insides of the case but not on the front. Anyway, for the price it's a good find! :)

I look forwards to coming up with weird things to store in there! :p

Why weird things? I put case screws and rubber wedges in there since that's the reason for it being there!

Nah, too awkward, what if you need the case screws for another system? Got a nice little box with different kinds of screws and other little bits. I'll have to come up with something more original to put in there.
