*Official* Antec P182 Case's,Builds,Modifications & FAQ's

Just got my case today (well, yesterday), such a huge upgrade from my old Antec PlusView II! The TriCool fans on low give a very comfortable hum, still not used to extensive 120mm fan exposure and their general quietness compared to smaller fans :D

Cabling was rather fiddly but still better than my old case, could be better but I'm knackered and will improve it once I get a better motherboard in.

:) Thanks very much, tbh I personally hate P182's as they are made from rolled steel and are a bit too small for my liking.

They are good cases and they are very popular but I prefer Lian Li or Silverstone cases every day of the week, theres so much more modding potential in them than Antec cases. ;)
 
Is it easy putting a side window in these things? I'm very tempted to get a P182 because if the inside, looks so clean and tidy with awsome cable managment.
 
I just ordered one, I hope to god I dont regret it!, Its blown a hole in my wallet :eek:, I plan on not doing ANYTHING to my PC untill 2-3 months now, I might get a new CPU for around 80 quid probs a Q6600.
 
It is a very nice case, looks nice and interior is very well designed, just not the best case out there for watercooling as it is slightly cramped for even a 120.2 radiator!

Thought so :D.

I was going to go with an Antec Nine Hundred as its cheaper but thought nah overall the P182 looks cleaner, tidyer and better build quality and should be as cool and last me longer, you think this case would get some some return if I sold it in say 1 years time if I kept it in good condition? My case I have now is cheapo and would not sell for even £5.

I wanna put a side windows in the P182 when I get it so gonna have to look for a window kit.

Window kit:

Drill bit (drill required to use :D)
Metal Jigsaw balde (jigsaw required too ;))
Files to make cut edges nice
Perspex
Knife to score perspex (score a few times then snap it, clean endges...)
Superglue

Done!

Ummm how does it just snap in? seems hard making it exact size of hole, I cant do DIY to save my life, my dad might be able to tho but he thinks I'm crazy for cutting a hole in a brand new case I just spent £91 on.

You make the perspex sheet bigger than the hole, and mount it on the inside of the case... Many ways of fixing it on, superglue, no more nails, drill/screw, rivet. Don;t think there are many cases which have the window the same size as the hole so that they finish flush...

You're paying for the sandwiched case panels and want to use perspex window:rolleyes:

I've got a 182, it's ok but I wouldn't use it for a gaming rig/server with plenty of hard drives. Too cramped. Needs to be a few inches deeper. I'd look into one of the larger Lian Li or Silverstone cases.

Should be fine for me only have 2 HDD's, if thats bad for it one can go on the outside of the case with eSATA.

Whats wrong with modding it with a perspex window? :confused: Should add value to it to sell on than if I sold it on with no case window.

No as you've just reduced the quietness of the case. A perspex window will be louder than the stock panels.

If I had the choice of stock 182 or custom window I'll take the former. But you're a kid so want flashing lights and stuff. The only mod I've done is to cut away the metal mesh on the front HD cage, I'll probably cut away rear fan mesh hopefully reduce wind noise. Removed top fan as it's a low spec HTPC so don't need massive amounts of case airflow.
 
i would take my elegent P182 over blindingly flashy gamer's case ANY DAY, even though im a gamer.

i just don't understand the concept of side window, p182 puts them all into a very quiet enclosure, and you forget about it, it'd be just you and the game, no computer to worry about, no noise, and no lights.

How will it make it louder?? Also do the front fans get enough air in when the front door is closed?

I have not even got the case yet so I havent decided if I amd effenitly going to do it or not!

I do like abit of lights, not loads like in my current case but I decided to use what fans I have so its all colourfull atm, 1 nice blue fan and a cathode at the bottom would do it.

Think about it. The 182 case doors are a sandwich of plastic and metal (metal/plastic/metal) you're now cutting it down to just a sheet of perspex. And a case window serves no purpose.

The front fans get plenty of airflow, the grilles to the side are intake for the case fans. Because the front door is opposite the fans direct fan noise is reduced.

It's a good case however the optical bays need to have screw holes (they just slide in, don't even lock) Bottom HD cage is too close to the fan/metal struts so bloody pain. Good idea with removeable slide out cage though.
