*Official* Antec P182 Case's,Builds,Modifications & FAQ's

My DVD drive actually ended up sticking out the case as u described! Didn't notice at the time of the build as its kinda blends still.

The drive rails screwed onto the side of the optical drive should allow the drive to slide in and out quite easiliy, you may need to squeeze the front of the rails to unlock it, quite easy!.

Just got my case today...excellent piece of kit...nicely designed. I also received 3 extra 120mm fans for free! Apparently there was a possible QC issue that may or may not affect the installed fans...so the free replacements were for anyone who may subsequently experience a problem.

Anyway, I've decided to replace the installed fans with the QC free ones (should not get the possible problem at all huh). Top fan and top rear fan are not a problem to remove...but how do I remove the bottom fan? The plastic casing surrounding the fan looks to be pretty 'tight'. Does it come out?...if so...how?

Any advice appreciated.

The DVD drive definitely clicks into place once it's home. You shouldn't be able to slide it out again without squeezing those tabs at the front. It shouldn't take any real force to push home, though - maybe the back of the drive is caught up on something?
You should be able to adjust how far out the drive sits, as you've got a choice of 3 holes on the rails at the front of the drive, and a 'slot' for the rear screws.

Are you talking about the fan right down in the bottom section, where you fit the PSU? That one is not obvious, I'll grant you :)
To remove the bottom fan you need to push down on the outer edge of the 'lip' that's sticking out, and pull the fan up at the same time. Hope that makes sense - if not, I'll try a picture!

Aha...faint heart and all that...no force required really...just technique..thank you very much gcogger...I would have broken it without your advice...cheers.

The fan at the bottom is screwed onto the black plastic frame which slides out once you unclip it, you need to wedge a screwdriver into the lug from the hard disk side of the divide, once the lug is pushed back u can slide the plastic frame right out!

OK...next question:
I want to fit 4 fans...the 3 stock fans and an extra 120mm fan in the 'centre' position, blowing in over the graphics card.
As you know the fans all have molex connections.
What are the options for connecting the fans to the mobo? Do I need to buy any 'extra' cabling/adapters?...or is it better to keep them running all the time under their respective High, Medium, Low control settings?
Not sure of the best option here...

Apologies if you've already looked into this, but are you sure you need 4 case fans? The main reason to buy a P182 is for low noise and adding lots of case fans seems to defeat the object.

I've been experimenting on my system and I've been surprised how little I've needed. I've been putting the max load on the system by simultaneously running Orthos blend AND 3DMark06 AND copying several GB of data, for 30 mins. I've ended up needing just the top/rear fan running (replaced with a Nexus, which has about the same airflow as the Antec one on the low setting). The top/top fan is disconnected and the vent blocked (it didn't make things any cooler), and the bottom fan has been removed. The PSU fan is running at slow speed (I can't hear it). I have no fan in the middle, and the divider to the bottom compartment is closed. No mods to the case.

Max CPU core temp is 54 C
Max graphics card core temp is 72 C
Max ambient (inside case) temp is 38 C
Max HDD temp is 38 C

My system is not the same as yours (spec below) but, given that my temps are pretty good, I'd be surprised if you really needed 4 case fans.

My system:
Intel C2D 8400 running at 3.44 GHZ, Arctic Cooler Freezer Pro 7
Gigabyte P35 MB with 2GB OCZ RAM at 1075 MHz
Gigabyte 8800 GT (the one with a Zalman HS/F) at 760/1900/1960 with fan under-volted to 7V (GPU temps are 3-4 C lower with the fan at full speed, but that's too noisy!)
Corsair VX450 PSU
WD 500GB HDD

I'm just a noob at all this and I'm a bit 'monkey see, monkey do'.
My graphics card is one that runs hot apparently, so that was behind my thinking for the 4th fan.
I would like to try to connect all 4 into the case...if I decide to remove any later, then at least I have that option open.
In the meanwhile I'm struggling on how to connect the darn things up!
Do I simply connect them to the PSU? (I see that one of the PSU cables would allow me to connect 3 fans...). Actually, come to think of it, I'm struggling on a few other things too...but softly, softly..

Uhuh,
Cannot fit the 4th fan as it turns out...graphics card is quite long and the power connector to it could not be in a worse place...just not enough room to fit the fan!
So, 3 fans it is.
I'm at the point where I need to hit the big button...

If you take out the upper HDD mounting cage, you can fit a fan in front of it (i.e. up against the front of the case). Not sure if you can put the HDD cage back in, but I think you can - if you can, that will help direct the air towards the graphics card.

Thanks for that...my DVD is in the upper cage.
Actually hit the 'Action this day button'...case fans whirr, cpu fan really whirrs (so noisy), DVD lights up and the eject works, mobo lights up, mobo POST stops at C1...nothing on the monitor at all...no POST...no nothing...
I'm stuck...

AAaaargghhh...sorry....misunderstood...I will try that later...too focussed on trying to diagnose what my non starter problem is...what a pain...

I did this in my P190 as soon as I got it.

And it works.

Now to get one in the lower chamber at the front.

I got my P182 today, along with all the other bits.

Here are some pictures...
