*Official* Antec P182 Case's,Builds,Modifications & FAQ's

Yeah, its a bit annoying but hopefully the second back plate will fit, if not atleast I can modify it without worrying about naffing it up and not having a replacement.
Hey Steve, any news on the second I/O shield?

I fitted the ASUS P5Q-Deluxe into the P182 last night and I got the same thing? the backplate seems to be 2mm out and I can't access some of the rear ports? (I'll post a pic later).

Hi mate. I received a second black plate mate, but it was for a totally different model of Motherboard, so I've contacted OcUK support again and the guy said he would send me a P5Q-E back plate, which I'm still waiting for.
I can't access 2 USB ports, the eSATA port and the keyboard PS/2 connector.

Hi Steve,

I may have some useful info for you, I made a full post using some of your piccies here but I'll add a little info to this thread also.

I don't think the I/O plate is the problem, the issue seems to be that the ASUS P5Q-Deluxe is sitting higher than other boards in the ANTEC P182 case?

The reason I know this apart from having the same I/O shield mismatch as yourself is that my heatsink (Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme) is sticking up higher than it was on my previous mobo (ASUS P5K-E WIFI/AP) and I am no longer able to replace the case side as it rests on the very top of the heatsink.

I think its safe to say this motherboard is thicker than normal? I just removed the mobo to have a closer inspection and noticed the rear of this board has two copper backplates (Stack n Cool 2) however these are quite thin so I'm not sure if they are causing the extra 1mm-2mm heght problem?

I also had a closer look at the P182's built in stand-offs and compared them height wise to a normal brass standoff and they are about the same height although the P182's standoffs are a hair taller.

Hopefully this may be of help to you and any others but as already said I don't think a new I/O shield will be the answer. we need to work out a way to lower the board in the case?

Cheers Wayne, it's a bit of a bugger isn't it, even more so for you with your heatsink not allowing the side panel to be put on.
I agree, it probably is the Motherboard sitting higher, as I fit my old Motherboard and back plate in the P182 and that fits perfectly, but having a second back plate to modify is my only solution as I don't feel like sanding the Motherboard stand offs down and trying to get them all the same height and straight, which I think is the only other option. I don't want to change the Motherboard either as I really like it and it's working perfectly.
I'm not too fussed about the eSATA to be honest, but I want to use the 2 USB ports and my Keyboard is a PS/2 connector, which I've had to push a bit harder to get it into the connector, not really happy with it but atleast its working.

Hey Steve,

When the board was fitted did you try and apply any pressure to the top of the I/O blocks inside the case? I got round to trying that after scratching my head for a while. Once some pressure was applied most of the ports were lined up properly but as soon as I took my finger off the top of the block the ports rose up as per your piccy

It looks like the actual P5Q-Dlx mobo is *bowed* and needs to be removed from the case and carefully flexed in the opposite direction, this mostly fixed the I/O mismatch for me however the one single FireWire port is slightly too high still (you are calling it the eSata port but it's the FireWire port you mean I think?), that eSata/Firewire block is badly attached to the board and is not in line with the other ports? to get the FireWire port lined up and useable pushes the board so low that most other ports go to the other extreme and sit too low (instead of too high lol).

I also think my TRUE heatsink will now fit as I notice there is a little play in te board around the cpu socket, if I push down the board will lower itself 1mm-2mm so I will just have to be careful when putting the case cover back.

I'm gonna have a grumble at ASUS and see if they have got some better I/O shields that allow for complete access for all ports.

Similar info posted in the ASUS P5Q-Deluxe thread here

Yeah, sorry mate I was meaning the Firewire port :p Which I'm not too fussed about either.
Is the Firewire the only port you can't use, or are there others like me? Have you got any pictures? I keep checking the thread in the Motherboards section too :)
Edit - I have the P5Q-E, not the Deluxe if you thought I had that mate.

Hey guys,

I currently have a P180, but I want a P182 for my next build just because the cable routing would be so much better (combined with a modular PSU)! However I am not keen on the gun metal colour of the P182, and was wondering if it would be possible to transplant the side panels and door from my P180 onto the new case? Only potential problem is that the top may also be gun metal? In which case it would be tricky...

Cheers,

Suman

just wondering, has anyone managed to get any skins/vinyls for their P182 yet?

I've got the P182SE and the mirror finished case is driving me mad, I've tried a few places but the want silly money (nearly as much as the case itself!)

Just to create a backlog of questions:

1) Will the Noctua NH-U12P CPU cooler fit fine in the P182 case?

2) I've read the P182's supplied antec fans are fine but can be loud set on high. It probably depends on other components but - if all three are set to low would you get enough airflow in the P182? If I got this case I'd rather not have to replace the fans straight away!

Sorry if they're already answered. Thanks.

Yes, it fits fine. Here's a shot from under my DVD drive, there's about 5mm space between the cooler and the side door.

The fans are quite loud on high (and on medium too). I've got mine all on low and can't complain about the airflow.

I just got this P182 case for my new rig and it seems a really nice case but my 850w Be Quiet PSU is too long.

I can't figure out how to take out the lower case fan out to give me more cable space behind the PSU! :(

Can anyone help me out please?

Excellent, thanks for the reply. Can't see your pic for some reason btw.

Yup, you're right :( damn!

It's annoying. I was fancying a 182 for my main rig to sit next to the Windows Home Server I've got in an old P180, but the size difference put me off.... ended up keeping the main rig in the Akasa Eclipse instead and sticking the wheels on so it's the same height as the 180! Able to leave the 360 resting across the top of the two cases now.

Still get the purchase itch for a 182 every now and then though....

Here are pics of my newly built PC.

I'm not quite sure what you make of my neatness but it's as neat as I could get it neat!

It's just a shame that my PC won't boot - I still don't know what the problem is! :(

P.S. I ripped out the bottom fan - It just wouldn't move!

Awsome CPU cooler, how much was it?

Does the bottom fan make any difference if it was in you thinke? I want to take mine out to use somewhere else but dont want to cause the bottom half to get hotter.
