*******Official Armed Assault 2 thread of official officialness*******

The weakspot seems to be Vista 64 as most people with a decent system like urs can play it fairly happily on W7 or XP. Install the W764 RC onto a small partition (30GB?) and see if it is better?

It's a good suggestion but I can't be arsed just for one game to be honest. Have plenty of other games to keep me entertained in the meantime. :)

Vista 64 + Arma 2 is fine :)

put it this way I'm running both Vista 64 and W7 RC 64 in dual-boot and I don't feel the need to specifically reboot just for Arma 2 ....

not sure if I can prove it ornot - but I seem to get smoother (not necessairly higher frame rates) with main memory at higher bandwidth vs a higher overclock (CPU)

ie CPU @ 3.3 with memory (6gb) at 1100 CAS5

vs CPU @ 3.5 with memory at 720 CAS4

first config seems to give better overall performance

Vista 64 is perfectly playable ... I was playing for several hours multi last night - 1900x1200 - with FSAA applied - and was 30fps - but smooth (4890)

W7 is slightly better for Arma 2 but not a lot in it

I was thinking last night why people tend to play mostly co-op online - was fun on ocuk server - but the AI for once of the enemy seems to be a bit lacking - like in one town I found 4 people just stood stationary behind a building while the whole town they were meant be defending was being over-run. The general taking of each town seemed a bit repetative - ie snipe first to take out some mass of the people - get a bit closer take out armour stuff with heavier weapons, then go into the town and clear-up.

I'd say more fun would be a mid-size town - 15 attacking - 15 defending - non-AI

now that sounds fun

I think its because its the easiest game mode. Very relaxed, take your own time gameplay with no way to lose, just persist until it is cleared.

I would recommend people play crCTI instead though - it is the best gamemode in ArmA 2.

The problem is, most of the time half the server is full of noobs, or people not interested in teamplay, so we leave the OcUK server on Domination, because teamplay isn't entirely required.

If you want fun, join our Vent server, and come to one of our regulars nights where we play different maps that require teamplay.

On Saturday we played a couple of maps where there are 5 or 6 distinct objectives, and plenty of good AI enemy to keep you on your toes. One mission felt like a Ridley Scott film, and one of our ex military members said he was almost having flashbacks it was so realistic.

Visit our forum for details.

Your friendly helicopter pilot is finally back from his europe trip :)

Give me the summary of what has happened in the last month for Arma 2... updates? fixes?

nothing, you have missed nothing, the dev bug list is in the 1000s if not tens of thousands and we've heard zip from BI.

We have however had confirmation that the AI cheats though with even dead AI able to report your exact location, Joy

Sounds like we're talking about the right game :p

Anyone playing tonight? Wouldn't mind having a little war after my chilled holiday!

When I tried to log onto the server the other night it asked for a password.

Is this right and if so what is it pls?

No password, the server would have been locked. To get in you have to join Ventrilo and ask an admin to unlock it for you.

We normally lock the server when it gets busy, both to help reduce lag caused by people constantly joining and keep the noobs out.

Ah , good olde gay mode in arma2

For those that need little map markers to tell them where to be shooting

Arma2 is way more fun than that , especially when its more than one dude running about by himself

This in reference to my mission vid? It is a defence scenario and the idea is that you are outnumbered. Once the reinforcements arrive it balances out. The idea is to hold until they turn up (about 15 mins).

Well, one of the most un-polished single player campaigns I have ever come across!

It's actually painful to play at the moment. Currently looking for Lapotev but I can't even get to any of the investigation sites without the AI transport crashing into trees :/

On top of that, half the time squad members get stuck running into the tail of the heli so I have to manually mount them, the heli pilot tries more often to land on buildings than the actual heli pad, the enemy ai sucks, it can at time be difficult to keep track of what is actually going on, the voice overs are lame and the performance isn't brilliant.. just for starters!

This game has so much scope and I am pushing on in an attempt to like this game (Will try out MP later but SP is what interests me for the moment) but I don't see it getting any better.

Some of the visuals are stunning and I love how much you can do with the game but I think that's the problem. The huge scope of the game means that the finer details are far from perfect and can cause some really irritating and stupid issues.

I know this game is not meant to be like COD4 but I just wish it was executed with the same precision and attention to detail.
