*******Official Armed Assault 2 thread of official officialness*******

Was going to give this ago and single player is what i want but this has put me right off :(

The single player campaign would be OK if you didnt have to play in squads with AI troops as the AI is that bad!! Try getting in a tank and asking the tank driver to go somewhere and its appauling... Left, right, left, right, forward a bit, backwards, forward again!

I'm enjoying MP but that's because you play with others and don't have to rely on the shocking AI. Haven't even played the single player campaign as the AI was bad enough in the training missions to put me off!

When OFP first came out I did the whole campaign
When resistance was released I finished the campaign also

Arma and Arma2 I did not even bother with the campaigns

MP is where it is at , SP is a waste of time

Tho mucking about in the editor can be fun also

A guide on how to command the AI here: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=81123

The AI is actually very good in ArmA2, probably the best of any game you can care to mention. It is just a very ambitious project with an extremely broad scope, plus to get them acting in a reasonable fashion you have to go through bursts of micromanaging their behaviour settings via the pretty ropey UI which doesn't help.

For those who are interested, I am going to host that bunker mission tonight from about 9. I reckon I can get atleast 5 players in with me without my bandwidth caining.

I will post later tonight to confirm I am hosting it. If you want to play it, just add me on steam (GuNiShMeNt - dunno if the caps actually make a dif)

No, I'm sorry but I disagree. I was in a tank on a flat runway and used the map to ask the AI driver to drive to the other end. He couldnt manage it! Driving with trees either side too and I asked my AI driver to drive somewhere and he kept stopping turning about, going forward then back. I could even get a video of it but I've found loads of examples on youtuve by typing "Arma 2 ai driving".

On straights it is OK sometimes but as this video shows as soon as the road curves it has problems and it randomly stops to think for no reason.

Or how about when there is a simple obstacle in the way:

MP is where the game shines because the AI vehicle behaviour is poor. I've had it many times when I've taken over driving and put the AI as a gunner instead only for them to not fire when I tell them to! Its infuriating  Other times they seem fine so god knows whether they're drunk or something!

Did you set the AI behaviour to "SAFE"? If not that would explain and cause what you describe here, the AI does work well, when you know how to employ them.

There are no doubts however that the control interface is complicated for people who haven't been around OFP/ArmA since the begining and it does need simplifying somewhat.

Just to let people know, me and Buckster are about to play the bunker mission. If you want to join search for "OCUK The Bunker" and join. I am not going to pw it but the max player limit is 6 so there will be 4 free slots assuming no random pubbers join.

The AI driving in the game is far from perfect but what you're describing here is sounding a lot like you have them on the wrong combat stance... also on the gunner, use the target menu, not clicking to engage.

Me and Buckster taking on the Bunker mission I am putting together:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihO_nETdSWI

Was pretty crazy but a lot of fun. I had the first aid module enabled to begin but we soon both agreed that it was better without it as respawns are enabled. There is also an annoying bug with it where, if you die, you respawn and the screen is still blury and red.

What's going on, you're getting shot tons and not dying till your bodymass has doubled from the anount of lead in you :p

Got my TRACKIR today, and pleased to say it's great!
I only play multiplayer and don't really fly, prefer infantry, and TRACKIR works great, feels so much better when you know you are aproaching multiple enemys, scanning the area in front and to the sides of you, if anyone is considering TRACKIR for ARMA2 or any game for that matter, just do it, it's brill!

I have one which I only use in flight sim's. I should really get on and set it up for Arma :D.
