*******Official Armed Assault 2 thread of official officialness*******

i have to watch it when i get home i guess :D.

So what is the multiplayer like?

Do you command a squad or how does it work?

Depends on the mission. You could be solo, in a squad with other players, commanding a squad of Ai or being commanded by Ai or controlling multiple squads of infantry and armour.

Been playing games for going on twenty years and that is just about the best game footage ive ever seen. Big Opflash and Arma fan and im so ridiculously excited about this game, as with previous efforts im sure it'll take the devs/community a while to get things into shape but christ is this game looking sweet :D.

WOW, that looks fantastic, the lighting effects on the explosions and fire, lighting up the smoke and the ground, it looks perfect. It looks like the OFP2 CGI videos! More then I can say for OFP2.

+1

As soon as this game hits steam, we need to set up a group and get some OcUK co-op going!

Totaly agree there, looked like its from the early 90s FPS. lol

Yeah, very Wolfenstein 3d :D

Hopefully it's just becasue the guy had turned down some of the effects, be a shame to have the realism of the game spoiled by a cheesy flash.

Have they updated the vehicles controls or do the vehicles still feel like they drive on rails and are made of cardboard? Never found the jeep driving to be any good in ARMA as it didnt feel that immersive. Love the idea of the game, but I would really love a COD4 style game on a map this size with the units.

I just prefer how the movemtn of the people feels in COD4.

Maybe Arma aint for you , have you tried COD 5 ?

I too love the whole concept of the game, but the implementation was poor in ARMA. Even though I am not a fan of twitchy super fast movement in games like Unreal and even HL2 the mouse control and character movement in ARMA feels like you are controlling a disabled robot. The entire control scheme appears to be configured around TrackIR which fraction of gamers use. The controls were overly complicated and unintuitive.

If the controles were improved in ARMA2 I would buy this game without hesitation because I do enjoy this sort of realistic gameplay. Realism should not = cumbersome.

I used to like OFP but that was in the days before multi-vehicles games became available so I put up with the controls which felt sluggish. Tried Armed Assault and the controls were just as bad imo. Didn't feel very immersive. Character control in games such as BF2 felt much more strong. I cant explain it really, but the controls just feel sluggish.

Did you disable floating zone in the options?

Not sure what you mean, aiming is just like any other FPS when you turn float zone down, no delay, just goes where you point it :/
Only cumbersome thing is movement but it's trying to be semi realistic when you change stances and run around.

It like comparing apples with oranges
They are 2 totally different games

1 Is a military simulator
the other
Is a run and gun fps shooter for kiddies

Of course the controls / how the control feel is going to be different

I know about the dead zone and had it turned down. The mouse moving and aiming still feels very disconnected or delayed. I have seen many people post about this and it is something I have experienced on two separate PC's with completely different hardware. Some people do not seem to mind this but to me it is critical.

Completely agree if you're talking about Arma 1, I found the charecter movements in 2 much better, they've improved them somewhat - you can reload, raise/lower stance and change direction/sidestep etc while moving now, where as in #1 things like reloading meant standing still being unable to move or crouch or do anything to avoid the incoming barrage of enemy fire until your avatar had finished loading the new mag!

As for the aiming delay, I found that disabling the floating zone, upping the mouse sensitivity slightly and changing the flip queue size (called "frames to render ahead" for nvidia users) pretty much eliminated any delay.
At the end of the day it is a realistic shooter, and things that can be done in COD4/CS like spinning 180 while jumping and pulling off a headshot in a millisecond are just not possible when carrying god knows how many kilos of armour and kit!

I do not want it be like COD4 or your average shooter, I just want it to feel natural. Does the frames to render ahead thing work with Ati cards.

My mouse movement has always felt floaty in that when I move the cursor it overshoots where I am aiming for, then requiring additional small corrections. I use a G9 which is a good mouse. It felt the same on my old rig with a MX 518. Framerate does not seem to effect it too much so it's imput lag.
