*******Official Armed Assault 2 thread of official officialness*******

If you're going to spend a lot of time playing this then I'd thoroughly recommend Trackir for it.

I haven't got ArmA 2 yet although still play the first one and the benefits of Trackir in it more than justify the cost. ;)

Also...don't worry about the mad ordering system for the UK supplier. The shop and staff are great so no worries.

Yeah, I built a Freetrack system and it didn't help me in Arma. I found I was zooming in and out all the time and feeling a bit uncomfortable. Stands to reason it wasn't set up right :o but messing about with it became a nuisance. It has kept back thoughts of buying the pro built TrackIR.

ALT key is ok for me as soldier but for flying it has to be nice advantage using TrackIR. Pity my flying skills are poor!

I too love the whole concept of the game, but the implementation was poor in ARMA. Even though I am not a fan of twitchy super fast movement in games like Unreal and even HL2 the mouse control and character movement in ARMA feels like you are controlling a disabled robot. The entire control scheme appears to be configured around TrackIR which fraction of gamers use. The controls were overly complicated and unintuitive.

If the controles were improved in ARMA2 I would buy this game without hesitation because I do enjoy this sort of realistic gameplay. Realism should not = cumbersome.

I know exactly what you mean. I skipped ArmA1 completely after trying it on my friends computer but decided to go for ArmA2 after all the hype and whatnot. Certainly these awesome youtube videos helped, too :) Two computers, dozens of settings later and the mouse just feels sluggish, laggish, terrible. Vsync off helped a little but it's still nearly unplayable. I have no idea how they implement mouse support this poorly but they did, twice in a row. Maybe they are only testing the game with TrackIR or something, I don't really know.. Ah well, too bad, such a great game otherwise.

Mixed reports from high end rigs and not too many benchmarks currently floating about.

Found this one a while back, seems to suggest ATi cards are the best bet so far. http://www.pcgameshardware.com/aid,...chmarks-and-visual-quality-compared/Practice/

And they are running a decent spec, i7 overclocked with 6GB RAM.

Dont take those results to seriously, its more down to luck whether you get good fps or not LOL. I have i7 and 6GB Ram run @ 1920x1280 with high/very high settings and im getting around 60fps lowest around 45fps its running very well for me, I was one of the lucky ones who manged to get SLI working by renaming the .exe, when I was running a single card though performance was nasty! Heres my post in the ArmaMark thread with settings/tweaks if people have a similar setup.
