*******Official Armed Assault 2 thread of official officialness*******

They're not a competitor so I can post it here:
http://www.rcsimulations.com/
Their website is horrendous but don't let that put you off, they're a very trustworthy seller (as I believe DJ_Switch was referring to above)

Yep, +1 rcsimulations - even though the website is a bit pants, the service is top notch.

I'd ordered mine from RC last week, and it arrived 10am next-day!

Give them a call before you order though, just to check that they have them in-stock. I did the same thing and the lady on the phone said they only had a few left - I guess a few people have seen this and bought one.

Also, if you do order, make sure you read the confirmation email that they send out, because for some reason (security I guess) they ask you to email or call them and confirm the security code on the back of your credit card. Nothing will get shipped unless you do... I called them and it was sorted in 20 seconds, so no big deal.

Oh yeah, and the Track-IR works really well with ARMA2... especially in flight. Takes a bit of getting used to at first - after two hours of flying in ARMA2 I did a bit of web browsing and found myself trying to scroll the page by tilting my head back ffs! :D That aside, if you are planning to do a fair bit of ARMA2 or some general flight/driving, then I'd definitely recommend it.

* Yes that was my first post, and No I don't work for them.

Damn nice, want one but no fund :(

Dont suppose you could do like a 5-10 minute gameplay video when you are using it. As most of the videos are more concerned about TrackIR.

I've only used it a bit on the sp arma but i'm finding it a bit hard to get into and also makes me feel a bit sick.. also disabled the z axis as it was zooming in when i didn't want it to.

I've not really put enough time into it but will do when arma 2 comes out.

Just out of interest, what settings are people using for speed and smooth? i know everyone is different but i can't really decide on settings i like.

Also got mine next day delivered from rcsims.

Speaking as someone who's used TrackIR for years in flight sims, I can't understand why it isn't common in the FPS world.

Once the initial weird stage has passed and you start to get used to it, it just becomes normal. So normal in fact that gaming without it feels odd and restrictive.

I've not got ArmA2 yet but I did use it with ArmA and it's just better. I find everything feels much more real & immersive as well as more natural than having to look around by moving the mouse.

I think it's just a case of getting the settings right. First time I used mine I went straight in with the default profile, and it did make me feel a bit ill by the time I'd finished. Plus I was using the floatzone as well, which you should really turn off if you've got a TrackIR.

I've tweaked the settings a bit on mine by reducing the speed to around 0.7, and the smoothing is around 12. I'm still messing with some settings though.

There are a couple of TrackIR & ARMA2 threads knocking about...

Someone has shared his ARMA profile here: http://home.htp-tel.de/agerber/arma.zip

... mine is similar, but this profile has some axis disabled I think.

I definitely recommend defining some decent keys for "Center" and "Precision", especially the latter as you really need to be able to steady the camera when you are aiming at someone (unless you can keep your head very still).

I thought the view would be different from aiming done with the mouse. Maybe be able to look behind while running, that kind of thing

Does this work with arma as infantry or in flight

I was wondering about that very issue. So does that mean it's difficult to adjust to playing games that are not TrackIR supported?.

Yes and no, it's not difficult to adjust, but it can be a bit weird. You find yourself moving your head to look around all the time once you've got used to using TIR all the time.

I have a Q6600 @ 3.33ghz, 4gb ram & a 9800GTX+ @ 1920 x 1200.

IS it time to replace my 9800GTX+ for this game and America's Army 3? or will I be wasting my cash?

If I need an upgrade, whats the best bang for buck of both nvidia and ati? It will have to be a big performance gain for me to consider an upgrade, being as not many other games appeal to me this year.

4890 :)

tried that profile but for the amount you are moving your head it doesn't move much .. think i will just increase it a bit and that will do - thanks.

I use the default profile but I adjusted the speed to 1.1, I can left around without moving head to much and it has a slight dead zone in the middle so the slighest movemnt from centre doesnt mean I end up looking left or right. Like the others have said though I couldnt do without it now, you do look a bit nuts watching youtube videos turning your head left and right though..... :)
