*******Official Armed Assault 2 thread of official officialness*******

These guys are awesome.

It is early morning and they go and release a patch with all the support that goes with it.... How many developers do that?

I am buying this game twice in support.

First impressions of new patch after 20-30 mins or so play:
- car (humvee etc) handling is MUCH better. Previously it felt a bit like steering a barge through custard.
- AI seem much more intelligent and dont seem to just stand there looking into space
- AI seem to find their way around walls and obstacles without problem now
- AI no longer (or at least I've not seen them) get in the wrong side of the car to drive (they previously climbed in the passenger side on occasion, going straight through the passenger!)
- If you order the AI to do something that is impossible, they no longer reply 'roger' immediately followed by 'negative', they just say negative.
- None of my previous saves work, although it did say so :( (starts loading the save, then crashes to desktop)
- Performance seems to be up very slightly. Disabling post processing also gives a nice performance boost and removes that 'fuzzy' distance feeling.

Agreed 100%, top notch stuff. I couldn't see someone like EA doing that :)

Just been testing the patch, sadly they didnt add individual options in the video settings for blur, bloom and HDR. It all seems to turn off when disabled except for bloom, which is still active. Car steering is still pretty dodgy, seems unchanged.

Decided to up my settings a little bit and took some screenshots to show something which I think is needed as soon as possible, a vegetation layer like in armed assault 1. Something to mask enemy/friendly/neutral soldiers when they are prone on the ground but outside of your grass draw distance, these screenshots show what I mean, the closer you are, the harder it is to see him.

When prone like that he cant see you because hes got grass in his face, but as yo see in the first shot you can see him perfectly, and your the one stood up.

Guys, was gonna wait for steam release but after seeing the screen shots here and rave reviews i just cant wait it so im off to shops today!!
How does the multiplayer compare to project reality mod? Does it have inbuilt voip and squad grouping?

I would say at the minute, MP is good and deffo has potential but all the servers seem to be running the same maps and maybe it's me not knowing what I'm doing but they seem to be quite large and not a lot of action (no I'm not after a gung-ho game before I got told to bugger off - just I dunno some small urban fighting rather than Capturing a WHole Island ;)). I'm hoping that now it's released in the 505 Games region, then hopefully there will be more servers and more variations of missions (plus for some strange reason my mate and I couldn't connect to one another, tried everythign so hopefulyl the patch has fixed this).

It does have squad support and depending on the mission type, it can be you controlling a fireteam of AI's or joinign a full human squad.

VoIP seems to be immense, there's quite a few different channels it seems (and could be wrong, not played around too much). But generally speaking, it seems you have the 'local' type broadcast, so anyone in your vicinity can hear you and depending on how far you are, gets quieter etc. Not really heard it in many MP games.

Also there's seems to be channels in-game that you can change, and Im not sure if this relates to text chat or voice chat, my guess it would be both, but again not had a chance to paly around with it but I'm sure someone can help :D

Hello guys,

This game looks really good, I was playing it last night but am getting a bity down heartned about being a total noob at it!

I have no idea whats going on, if I buy a mumble voice comms server will people wanna go on it and try to help each other learn the game? Ultimatley playing it properly, but still have a laugh.

I did look at clans last night but some of them are treating the game like its real, which is a little of putting for me atm.

What do people say?

My experiance with Mumble is not a nice one tbh, Teamspeak or Ventrillo is far better, i think my CoD clan has a back-up Teamspeak server which is not used, will look into it and post ip etc... if you guys want?

After applying the 1.02 patch i finding the cars handle much much better and the AI appears to have their IQ boosted by about 20 points, particularily they attack more in groups.

You can now have FSAA by changeing your .cfg, but when AA is enabled shadows are disabled so that looks ****.

No appreciable performance boost

For those who are having problems with low framerates: you can try turning off post processing and if you don't mind how it looks it gives a very large increase in fps.

Here is what the developer says:

FSAA is not fully supported yet (that's why you can have some shadows problems ...), you cant tweak it in the options menu. You can get it worked by changing value in your ArmA2.cfg file.

FSAA=0; Disabled
FSAA=1; Low
FSAA=2; Medium
FSAA=3; High

FSAA will be completely supported in one of the futures patchs (Full AA suport is expected in 1.03)

btw further testing on W7 last night showed graphical corruption whenever you were between houses - or in a town - literally the whole screen would fill with graphical corruption - just like when you graphics card goes a bit wack.

will check if I've the latest drivers on there - Vista haven't had any corruption

Oh thats it then,having read through most of the previous threads,i,m off to town to buy this.(O F was amazing,never played Arma 1 )
If it plays shockingly,then its time to seriously think about upgrading.
Will playing on my 19"tft be advantagous,can,t be bothered to go bigger yet,though i do hook my pc up to 42" lcd tv for GTR2/GTE now and then.
Time to get dressed,lol.

Definately my favourite game over the last 18 months or so

just need to work out multiplayer now !! - ie how the heck do you find the others/spawn in places not 20km away !

Gah noob city. After trying to heal the wounded guy lying in front of me for 20 minutes, wondering why the action menu wasnt coming up, resetting controls etc. realised it was another wounded guy 20 paces away. One question though - how do you switch between first and third person modes?

Nice shots Buckster. How is your performance ?
If you can afford the frames put some 133% fillrate optimizer (3D resolution it's called now after 1.02) on that thing. That does a lot for the visual fidelity.

From the CEO of Bohemia Interactive:

"What we call Fillrate Optimizer (from version 1.02 it will be simply two separate combo boxes for rendering and interface resolutions in advanced video options) is FSAA in case you render to higher resolution than your physical monitor resolution, it's real supersampling with uncompromised visual quality.

Another, more common method of FSAA is MSAA (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multisample_anti-aliasing for detailed explanation) which is visually inferior to proper supersampling (as offered by fillrate optimizer) but takes much less GPU resources. MSAA is not yet fully supported in ARMA 2, however, it's already possible to experiment with it in version 1.02 by using FSAA=1; option in arma2.cfg (or higher numbers for higher level of MSAA but generally higher number here will need more GPU performance with the same render target resolution) with some limitations (shadows don't work at all, also some special effect like rotational blur or water don't work correctly) and it shows great potential in combination with our fillrate optimizer to improve performance/visual quality of Arma 2 significantly in various scenarios."
