*****Official Ashes thread*****

Looks like today is a washout, raining pretty hard at my office so imagine its raining hard down at the Oval.

Pffft english summer, gotta love it:p

Ground staff have said it will need 2 hours to get the pitch playable once it stops raining and there's no sign of a let up. Looks like today is over :(. tomorrow could still be interesting.

70% chance of more rain tomorrow so yeh will be interesting to see the ground soaked in rain and no play happening:p

Yeah it was:

BBC article from 6mins after I posted, I didn't catch your post as I was watching footy. :p

LOL no worries, i would have checked myself if i wasnt watching footy either:p

Oh well shame we lost a day of cricket as it would have been interesting to see if England continued to bore the Aussies to death with their uber slow batting:p

If you watched the commentary today, every man without exception made it quite clear that the pitch was the reason it was such a slow day, even Pietersen couldn't get anything from it.

I'm not really fussed about the slow batting - one thing that has dogged the Aussies over the last 3 series is their inability to take all of our wickets even when in very promising positions and this just exemplifies that - I'll take a bit of boring over previous England sides which would collapse all the way down to 11 at times :p

Sorry but why would England declare? Seen some comments on BBC but I'm not following why Agnew et al think they should declare .

Obviously they shouldn't declare in terms of winning the game.

Would be nice if they did though, if only for the fans who have paid to watch this non-event(apparently it was sold out before Christmas). Have Australia bash it about for an hour and then see if they could bowl England out again
