Also what cooling as she is idling pretty toasty, to be expected with those volts but I do wonder what your load tempts must be. Mine is stable now on just 1.352v and maxing 46-47c load across the cores. Not really sure that I want to go to 4Ghz but is is very tempting tbh and this board just inspires confidence with overclocking if you get me :).

Also for the record the 4GB reaper RAM is working like a charm on the 505 bios. Just stick it in, get the Vdimm to 2.1 (about 2.02 or summat set in the bios for 2.10 actual), the SPD works perfectly and it just works :). I might play with the timings, but not at the moment.

My 24/7 clock is 3.6Ghz @ 1.35V. Temps at that spped are idleing at 32-36 degrees and load up in the region of 50. Could probably do with lapping my CPU and heatsink but haven't fgo around to it yet.

Hi, I can't believe the oc's you guys are getting, jeez if only mine would do the same. Best I can get really is 3.2 and I've just found out this motherboard doesn't like my 4 x 1gb memory modules, 2 sticks at a time test fine in any of the slots, 4 of them fail memtest big time :( Not a happy bunny

What are your bios settings, are you using the latest bios?

Hi cliffy and thanks for your reply. If you look back through this thread you will find that I've tried everything. I cannot clock at 3.6ghz, 400x9 because my cpu overheats, best compromise is what I've got it at now...

It is advisable to change the pre installed thermal compound if you are o/c. Asus tend to apply an extremely thick goo type compound.

Use a hair dryer and warm up the NB and remove re apply AS and your good to go

Cheers mate, much appreciated. any suggestions as to a replacement compound? was going to buy the striker extreme, but guessing the maximus would be the better option now... also, any advice on an adequate air cooler for a q6600 on a maximus board? or is watercooling the only viable option for the maximus?

'cough' Arctic Cooling MX2 just to avoid any confusion ;)

Yeah, sorry about that , thanks for the correction:)

@ confusion , i have used AS on mosfets before but best with MX2 as it isnt electrically conductive but is supposed to transfer heat better than Arctic Silver.

I have kept the original mosfet assembly (for a change) but made a couple of mods. Although my double strength WB backplate means that I get zero board warp at all even with stupid clamping pressures, I got a pair of Welshtom's SS mosfet backplates. I changed the little push through clips for some threaded bolts I made up, kept the clip springs and screwed these down using the original thermal pads with a fair bit more pressure. The Mosfets produce so much less heat nowadays so I have gone overkill just doing that tbh but I don't skimp stuff like this.

You should be able to make them out in the pic below:

ok, how the hell do you get the black screws that attach the moffset heatsink and the onboard sound chipset heat sink to the mobo?

and is it defiantely worth using mx2 on everything under these heatsinks?
