*****Official ASUS MAXIMUS FORMULA thread*****

Using the 602 bios I've got OCZ 1066 ram stable (at 1066) with the strap set to 333mhz and 400fsb. Isn't stable enough to load windows with the strap at 266 and the same settings.

I thought the strap was set automatically when you selected a certain memory speed? I've tried virtually every memory speed but always left the strap on auto... should it be set manually?

anyway, on 680i now, going to see if it's any better when Windows is set up.

Hi Chris try dropping down to 390 fsb might help both the bsod , which sounds like ram freq to me, also will help drop those temps.
Could always sandwich that rad with two more quiet fans

Hi, ok andy I'll try that, one other thing, looking at your suggestion for more fans on the rad. The supplied rad fans spin quite slowly, despite them being connected to molex, is there any way I can tweak up the speed of them both, perhaps controlling via the motherboard somehow?
Cheers...

If you got them at 12volts then thats it really

yeah it just gives you memory settings that are available for that perticular frequency if set to manual , dont see the point really

i think there could be more dividers on this board , a bit limited me thinks

Hi, thanks, set it as per your suggestion, still getting a bit 'toasty', CPU core are at max 82c, although the room is very warm as well. Rad must be doing its job as it also is getting very warm. I think your probably right about the graphics cards as they were hittng 54c, that's two of them. I guess that the penalty for building a gaming PC. Perhaps I can bring down the vcore a little, that might help..

Right, well I have had a blat at 400x9 and I have yet to stress and tweak voltage but these are the current results at idle:

Been cheeky and not scaled it so best to keep as a link.

Set manual clocking, crazy setting, 400fsb, 1:1 ram, transaction booster disabled, 1.4 vcore in bios, 2.12 vdimm, vdamper on, rest on auto. Again, really happy with my temps. As for whether my settings are stable or not I will soon find out and hopefully cahn lower some of the 'ramdom' voltage settings too.

Hi, damm fine temps, I tried your vcore and averaged 49c on my cores, what are you using to cool yours with?

If you click on the link in my sig you will the case which is pretty well the same still but with no fsp x3 booster in there, but with a second liberty PSU running off a relay.

Basically it goes: (1)DDC+ > (2)DDC+ > Front PA120.3 > Fuzion CPU block with nozzle kit > MCW30 > EK8800GTX > EK RES 250 > External PA120.3 > (1)DDC+

Currently 20.5c ambient. I have dropped the core voltage to 1.375 (1.368 actual) and am currently testing. So far so good. Load temps on small fft's appear to be around 46-47c atm.

Just an update, my 680i crashed with 4 dimms at 1066 too.

I've backed it down to 1000 and it's rock solid in Prime95 (unlike the Formula), so apart from the issue of 4 dimms not liking 1066 speed; I suspect the northbridge was overheating to cause the Prime95 errors.

I guess it needs to be watercooled. :p

Ahs, no wonder it's that cool

13 hours prime stable at 3.6, 1.368v. Temps are level at 48c across all 4 cores 20c ambient. might drop the volts down to 1.35 vcore but I have a sneaking suspicion that I am near the stable volt floor.

Nice and cool , can i ask you which UFO you have as i have been looking at them with interest in buying one

is it true you have to replace the thermal cement on the nb cooler? from what i've heard, people have been burning up their boards due to the cement being to 'strong'... (whatever thats supposed to mean!??)

Well I am a happy bunny, 18-19 hours prime small fft stable at first settings, this board/cpu are really great, been a good few builds since I had a really spot on combo:

http://www.ftaclan.net/clanftp/nick/misc/3600run1.jpg

I have dropped the volts to 1.52 actual now and will see how I get on.

AndyR, I have the 'U2-UFO White Powder Coat - Original Top'. Be careful and make sure that whatever one you order comes with the 5.25 blanking plates! Mine didn't lol, but I did get the 9 HD bay included :).

I took a quick snap showing the current Mobo setup side of the UFO:

I have the reaper ram FINALLY but haven't fitted it yet. I used to do a max of 2 builds in once case normally and then want to change but I am on my 4th or 5th build in this chassis and love it to bits, I really can't see myself ever wanting or needing another case tbh. Just as a side note, petra's gel pads are worth their weight in gold for sound deadening of pumps. Just use your bonce and don't rest a heat producing part of the pump, U still have my pumps standing on theit alphacool tops and bonded to the gel pads, no noise at all, no vibration at all :D

Hi,very very nice, wish I could get anywhere near your settings :(

It is advisable to change the pre installed thermal compound if you are o/c. Asus tend to apply an extremely thick goo type compound.

Use a hair dryer and warm up the NB and remove re apply AS and your good to go
