*****Official ASUS MAXIMUS FORMULA thread*****

Are people finding this board working well with just the NB watercooled? Or would it be recommended to water cool the CPU straight away as well?

I've never watercooled before so I want to know what I'm letting myself in for before ordering this.

Hi folks,
was going to buy a 680i board but looking at the Maximus now, wondered if the Swiftech H20 120 Compact Kit would work for both NB and CPU (Q6600)? or am i being foolish to think a £90 WC kit will cope with both?

depends on what case you are cramming things in to and if you are internally or externally fitting the rad. From my own personal experiences I find that single 120mm rads perfom poorly in comparison to dual or triple rads and I too was only cooling cpu/northbridge.

Mine is working absolutely flawlessly. Not one single hiccup at 3.6 with only mild voltage increases for the MB components. CPU is at 1.36V and is happy as larry combined with the WC northbridge. The cpu block has the DTEK accelerator nozzle kit fitted too (quad core nozzle). The fact that the NB has a proper heatslug on it makes it a no brainer if you WC. Also, it can look very pimp as a bonus:

At the time of writing and using the processors I had at hand, the 0505 was the best solution (we tested non 45nm) not to mention that 45nm is not fully available yet. I am currently testing the 0702, which may be included in a follow up if deemed necessary. Later BIOS releases can always change the way the board sets up the straps and how they interact with various CPU's. The main issue with Transaction booster in the Maximus Formula is working out the PF level offsets between BIOS's, that's all the difference usually is, together with a couple of the secondary timing ranges.

Transaction Booster is a function we have urged Asus to return to logical user level control (among other improvements that should be available in this price range), rather than the offset levels (with amalgamated TRD phase register shifts) that are not really intuitive. The X48 board already features these improvements and we hope they filter down to the lower models.

Interesting stuff. The 702 bios was taken down from FTP for some reason, and judging by how fast the bios' are coming out you will have your work cut out for you :p

can anyon me tell me if this board likes 4 1gb sticks.

I can clock just as well with 4 gig mixed ram as I could with 2. No problem at all.

Well after all my troubles with this board and after having splashed out on aftermarket cooling to no avail, it's now starting to look like a duff memory module... good old Crucial.

Whats the difference with the V2 board then. I have only just got mine so I might be able to help perhaps . . .

I am not entirely sure of the differences - but something inside tells me that if a V2 has been released so quickly that there may be something which has been fixed.
It would be good to have something more concrete to go on though other than my own unfounded paranoia!! Other sites specifically state a V2 board.
