*****Official ASUS MAXIMUS FORMULA thread*****

this board is great and just so stable, i've never seen a bsod or reboot.

have a mcw30 on the NB and made up some custom bolts & screws for the mosfets (+ metal backplates) to get a little bit more pressure than the default setup. used some BGA ramsinks for the SB so passively cooled but it gets some airflow from the 120.3 fans.

NB hovers around 31c idle/load in the same loop as my Q6600 G0 with a 120.3

might give prime another couple of hours and then shoot for 3.9-4ghz.

Any opinions on any cpu droopage on the maximus board (if any)? far as i can tell its the one thing on my p5k thats holding my overclocks back.

Also whats the difference between the maximus formula and the maximus formula "se"? Waterblock would be one but anything else added in like games or options in bios that work on one vs dont work on another like they screwed over vanilla p5k owners with a voltage damper option that did nothing.

probably the best vdroop i have ever seen is on this board, actually i don't think i ever see any droop under load just a little bit of vdrop from bios which is about .01

in that pic above i'm set @ 1.45 in bios under 3.8ghz

the only difference between SE and non SE is the fuzion block, they're identical apart from this in terms of bios. the SE might have some more boxed goodies??? i went the non SE as i was always going to put an mcw30 onto the NB, the price difference paid for the block.

Well guys I type this from my newly built PC. I have the SE with a Q6600 pro and 8GB of OCUK Value RAM.

I've currently got air on the CPU and northbridge due to breaking my W/C kit on first setup. One thing that as amazed my is the low temps caused by my new case. I'm getting 19C idle using a heatsink ripped off a Pentium D. The case is great, it's an XClio with 25CM fan on the front and 36CM fan on the window. It is one seriously cool case.

So is maximus formula board (not M F SE) good for a normal air cooled setup (Thermalright 120)..or only recomended when water cooling. I want an X38 and a 3Ghz q6600 with pcie 2.0...am i better to save cash and go for p5e with air cooled? dont need any features over and above good 6600 oc on T120 and pcie 2.0 (oh and 400Mhz fsb in future).

Very informative post marscay;) (Nice O/C by the way M8)

(the P5K motherboard is vdroop viagra crazy:eek:)

I have just started to put my system together but when i turn the system on for the first time it starts and then shortly afterwards shut dows again before i can fet into the bios.

The LCD Poster usually stops on INIT ROM which i cannot find an explaination for in the manual.

Can anyone help?

okay i checked for shorts - and I could not see anything - still can't get past init rom message on the post.

I notice that is i power on directly after it shuts down faster and the cpu is very hot

okay - fitting the heatsink helped this and i have now managed to get to the bios. Still i have a worry that the cpu should not have got this hot! In the bios it is 33C which seems fine.

Hi, must have been the hsf not seating correctly, or did you not fit it? Don't worry, the reason why it wasn't booting would have been the temp failsafe on the cpu. If you ran it without the hsf you were lucky this time...

ide!

hi

just built a pc with the Asus Maximus Formula SE, board, now its has one Sata hd drive, one Sata dvd writer, and a IDE HD-Rom( master)

at boot, bios keeps reporting, something on the lines of, "No Ide Boot drive? press F1"

never had this issue before, have set bios options to boot from Sata Harddrive,

Built many systems with same sort of spec, choose Sata to boot from , never a peep about IDE boot errors! :(

VDroop on this board is intriguing me.

I'm getting .031-.032 Vdroop on the chip idle, but getting .41-.49 Vdroop under full load (all cores 100%)

I'm running 1.25v in bios but getting 1.216v under idle and 1.176-1.184v under full load.
Currently clocked at 333*9=3GHz.

Is this the chip, m/b or PSU? Chip is Q6600 G0 stepping and PSU is OCZ ModXTreme 780w. Voltages on rails all appear good.

--Edit--

This rig is a beast, it's running at 3ghz, 2x dual core Orthos primes running (1 affinity to each core) Task manager, CPU-z and Speedfan running too, and I am able to surf and browse the internet with no apparent slow downs... What a way that is from the days of even dual core that couldn't do anything extra when you had 2 cores running at 100%!!

Can't wait until I sort out my watercooling to get some real clocks going on!
