*****Official ASUS MAXIMUS FORMULA thread*****

New bits arrived yesterday:

Asus Maximus Extreme
Q6600
OCZ 2GB DDR3 PC3-12800C7 1600MHz Platinum

Got it all up and running today with my 2 2900Pro 1024MB's modded to 850/1000 and have it stable at 430 x 9 = 3870Ghz

I'm also running two seperate water loops:

1. PA120.2 - CPU
2. PA120.3 NB & both GPU's

Got 19603 in 3DMark06, so all in all, pretty darn chuffed so far.

Nice:cool:. What are your temps and voltages Predator M8 out of interest on your custom waterfall rig:D

Cheers.

Loop 1 PA120.2
CPU idles around 50 and reaches late 60's (1.5v)

Loop2 2 PA120.3
NB idles around 40 and reaches mid 40's
GPU's idle at 39 and reach around 45

I've still got to tweak a lot as its only been up and running since 12ish today;)

Quick question, on the 8pin power connector on the board (half of which is covered) is it required to have all 8 pins used or just 1x4pin, if it needs 8 will 2x4pin be ok?
Anybody? Because i am having problems with This board + Q6600, and currently only have a 4pin connector plugged in (other 4pins had a black cover on them) SO i dont know if i should remove the cover and use a second 4pin connector to make the full 8?

Are you sure? Because i dont want to blow up my friends CPU :p

Well I have a S12 connected to a DC3P in a Lian Li 767. The 8 pin connector wouldn't reach due to it having to pass over the graphics card so I used the 4 pin connector until I got an 8 pin extension cable. This was with a non overclocked dual core CPU not a quad core and it worked fine with the 4 pin plug connected.

Having read the manual for the DS3P it says the 8 pin plug is needed for Extreme Editions processors 130w or greater. Bear in mind though overclocking a Q6600 to 3ghz (from 266x9 to 333x9) gives it the same settings as a QX6850.

Ok people, went around my friends, and started from scratch on the OC, and got it working fine without the need for 8pin cable :). i still dont know what was going wrong, but whatever it was i fixed it :p

Ok, well after 48 hours of tinkering, I'm having issues getting mine stable now.

Its okish at 400 x 9, but for some reason I just can't get my FSB stable at 450 or above.

Seems crazy really becuase its DDR3 1600 and everything I've read about this RAM states that it can easily run 450 and even up to 500.

If anyone has any tips on voltages etc, I'd be grateful. My Extreme is running the latest BIOS 0803.

Try some of these tweaks:

Ai Overclock Tuner : Manual
CPU Ratio Control : Manual
FSB Frequency : 450+
FSB Strap to North Bridge : 400
PCI-E Frequency: 105

DRAM Frequency: Auto

DRAM Static Read Control: Disabled
Ai Clock Twister : Light
Transaction Booster : Disabled
-Relax Level 3

CPU Voltage : whatever u feel comfortable with
CPU PLL Voltage : upto 1.7
North Bridge Voltage : 1.65v...maybe more
FSB Termination Voltage : 1.8v+
South Bridge Voltage : 1.150
Loadline Calibration : Enabled
CPU GTL Reference : 0.63x
North Bridge GTL Reference : 0.67x
CPU Spread Spectrum : Disabled
PCIE Spread Spectrum : Disabled

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I'm afraid that my MB really didn't like that and complained about being corrupt. Thank god this board recovers easily.

I've got it stable at 420 x 9 now, but it won't go any higher

:(

You could try the 333FSB strap, it can be better some times. And, or set the ram to manual.

Also, try setting the FSB to 440; then try set FSB in windows and see how far you get.

Okay I am all set up, I have been ruunning at 3.5 GHZ with the crazy auto level up option in 903 bios.

I decided it was time to get up to 3.6 which was alway my aim so I have gone into the bios to chage the FSB to 400. However when press enter to chage it it won't let me. Also when I try to change the cpu ratio control it won't let me.

Any ideas?

Sorry to harp on, but i am still stuck with this and I can see that everybody else is managing to set FSP and CPU ratio. Can anybody suggest what I may be doing wrong?

Probably because you are using the 'crazy' CPU settings, if you set it to manual you should be able to change everything.
