*****Official ASUS MAXIMUS FORMULA thread*****

I have overclocked purely by manually setting FSB to 400 multiplier to 9 and mem to 1066. Everything else is left on Auto. is there any chance of any "throttling" taking place or anything else detrimental?

look at post number 151 last screen shot or follow the link above your post and set in bios the same as and then multiplyer will stay at 9x

If I buy 2gb of Dominator memory for use with this board will it startup or will I need to buy a stick of cheap memory to get into the bios to increase the RAM voltage? If I need to buy a another stick of RAM whats the cheapest to get it going?

Cheers

I havent heard of any issues with first boot with this chipset unlike the 680 chipset from nvidia , i have used 3 different types on this board and all booted fine

i don't like 0907 bios @ all so far, with 0901 i'm 11hr prime stable @ 3.8 with 1.45v but so far i can't replicate this under 0907.

tried messing with GTR ref and the usual culprits for stability - transaction booster, static read,AI twister to no avail.

Does the Tuniq Tower 120 fit on this board??

As hardc0re_tid says above it does.

What I found is that the retention bracket touches the heatsinks of the NB/SB, so you have to make sure when you tighten the screws you ensure it's applying even pressure to the heatsink.

OT, what is stock volts for a Q6600 GO?

Personally I find the 903 to be the best bios for me at the moment. 907 is a bit flakey for me as well.

I was gonna try doing what the previous guy said but when i try to do what you say on the last screenshot setting cpu ratio control to manual it wont let me just stays on auto, but the rest i can change

I can't even run my ram at stock 1066 without lockups either, even with processor at stock.

ive noticed this and other posts regarding memory over 1000mhz by weescott. my system is not stable at stock either.
q6600 g0, great temps, t120 xtreme
asus mf 9.0.3...terrible temps (45 0c north and southbridge)
dominator 8500 ram running at 533Mhz (1066).

asus probe shows high temps, then when under load many (inc nb, sb) of voltages will flip to 4.08v as shown in asus probe.

random crashes and reboots after a typical few hours load. any ideas..should i force my memory to ddr 800 (perhaps 4-4-4-12, 2.1v 2T, auto for rest)?

thanks

thats interesting...my first boot was abortive...fans whirred and then shutdown..subsequently boots have been fine..auto voltages sets voltage to 2.2 (should be 2.1 from spd) as reported by asus probe which is a bit high but perhaps it is asus probe that is incorrect.

Just had a nitemare with my board, took the cpu heatsink off to clean it and took the cpu out then when i put it back it took a fit on me and wouldnt boot.

Was using the 0505 bios and had been rock solid with my 8x450 oc,flashed to the 0903 bios and it wont boot with the exact same settings i have to use 9x400 now.

sometimes you need to start with a clean slate when changing bios.

e.g. i've finally dialed 0907 in properly, it likes Clock Twister on Moderate and nothing else over 400FSB whereas previous bios were more flexible with this setting.

I've just bought this board and I get approx 38degrees northbridge and 42degrees southbridge on stock settings. Is this normal.I would expect at least low 30's on both of them, otherwise all is running just great.

I got the 'CPU INIT' message on the poster after changing a setting for the sound card, saving then reboot. All it done after that was power up the fans for about 10 seconds then switch back off. It does this repeatedly with 'CPU INIT' showing in the poster. I cleared the cmos by enabling the button on the back through the switch next near the cmos battery. Held the clear button in for 30 seconds removed the cmos battery for two hours.

I put it all back together and it powered up with default settings ion the
BIOS. I have not adjusted any settings other than the enable HD audio up to this point everything was an auto as I wanted to run the PC for a few days at stock speeds before adjusting anything.

The BIOS that was installed when I bought it two days ago was 901. I am using G.Skill 2x1gb HK 8500 memory which is meant to be run at 2.3-2.4 volts at 5-5-5-15. As I had not adjusted anything I was worried about it running at 1.8v and thought that might be the cause of the CPU Init so I set the ram voltage to 2.3 plus I know this board over volts the RAM by 0.08v. I then flashed the BIOS to 903 via a USB stick through the alt f2 thingy and it worked no problem. I went back into the BIOS and changed the RAM voltage to 2.3 and booted into windows. I rebooted several times and even played COD4 for afew hours. Then while sitting idle it suddenly rebooted and the screen remained black after the BIOS startup logo. I power cycled the pc and this time it got to the loading screen for windows and froze again. I rebooted and went into the BIOS to check the settings and it froze while browsing the BIOS. Another reboot and now it sysles through all the startups in the poster and settles CMOS ERR with a blank screen. Every reboot is the same

I have removed the cmos battery and power cables as well. I will leave them out until the morning. I also tried removing each of the sticks of ram in turn and inserting them into different slots which made no difference. Anyone any ideas what the problem is?

CPU temps we all fine in Core temp just before it rebooted as I had just looked at them.

Have you plugged the AUX power cable into the motherboard?
The memory ony needs 2.3v+ when running at 550Mhz

Yeah if you mean the 8 pin 12v supplies to the CPU. I knew the memory didnt need the 2.3v unless it was running at the faster speed but I wanted to rule out the Ram voltage.

On the post screen where you hit tab to see the info screen it tell's me im running at 3.2ghz and to the right of that it says "count: 2" im near sure on my p5k it said "count: 4" as im running a q6600. Anyone else getting this? Maximus formula bios 907.

Moving From 400x8 to 400x9

G0, Maximus Formula, T120 Extreme,
temps are currently 54,54,52,52 under load on vcore 1.3875 so I dont think lapping is neccessary - temps seems fine.
If Im 8hrs prime 95 stable on all 3 torture tests, and I want to try and get to 400x9 (when 400x8 is ok) whats are the only voltages I might need to tweak? can i ignore the motherboard votages and just use vcore?
