*****Official ASUS MAXIMUS FORMULA thread*****

The V Core should only be .02v lower in CPUZ than in the bios. Check you have the latest version of CPUZ. This board doesn't need a pencil mod, or indeed any mod.

V Drop = lower CPU voltage in windows than Bios
V Droop = lower CPU voltage when under load.

The bios settings I posted above are the main settings to take note of. Loadline callibration is to counter V Droop.

Weescott does .1.375 vcore in bios sound about right for q6600 g0...should i be tweaking other settings to get it lower and thus reduce remperatures? eg. would tweaking the loadline calibration potentially reduce the vcore or some such?

im nervous that because all the other settings are on auto..things are ;more 'over cooked than they need to be'.

thanks

Tuniq tower barely fits on this mobo, first time around i had some of the hsf base sitting on the caps surounding the socket and never realised.

Hi, I'm liking this new bios, just primed my rig for over two hours with the 4 1gb Crucial PC850's back inplace. Couldn't get more than ten mins with previous bios versions and that ram...

Flashed my maximus extreme from 0803 to 0904 and its made no difference to performance:(

Can still only get it stable at 420 x 8. Almost seems pointless having DDR3-12800 now

you mean 907?

anyways i did the vdroop mod on mine and i can lower the core slightly

from 1.42-3 in windows down to a solid 1.40v

idle and load its still a solid 1.40v, both cpu-z and probe

Can anyone advise what voltages would be roughly right for the following combo. also Im using asus pc probe to show voltages and current SB, SB2 FSBT DRAM, DRAM Ref, NB are all showing 4.08v so i guess it dont work - any ideas?

asus maximus formula bios 903
corsair dominator 8500
q6600 g0

apart from defaults.
im running FSB at 400 and vcore at 1.375
the memory is auto at 1066Mhz 3:4, FSB:DRAM.
every else is set to auto.

I think I ought to manually set those voltages above because if there anything like the vcore - the auto setting is over conservative..

given that the only thing im overclocking is the FSB/CPU can any one advise some suggested voltages for the SB,SB2,FSBT,DRAM,DRAM Ref and NB please, and a utility to confirm them?

thanks

1.375v is pretty low. You should be able to put up to 1.55v through the Q6600 G0 if you can keep it belows 72c Orthos load.

If you have a stable PC with settings to auto, leave them be.
There are various tweaks you can do (which I listed above) which can effect ram performance and help in pushing the FSB past 450mhz. eg disabling the transaction booster and relaxing it to 3 or more.

Hi, sorry to say, and I'm sure you know this, but this thread is for the maximus formula. Perhaps it might be better to start a thread dedicated to the Maximus Extreme as it is a different motherboard and has a different bios version, just to stop any confusion....:)

thanks for the advice..I think ill follow the forum lapping instructions for the cpu/thermalright 120 before trying to extract any more out of it.(the t120 is far from flat).any ideas why the asus pc probe shows all those voltages as 4.08v in red with a large claxon sound..is there a better util for confirm the voltages that the motherboard has chosen for auto. eg. sbm sb2 n etc.

Hi guys system is up and running but need some help.

Whats the best way to monitor temperature of cpu from windows? Currently on vista 64..

Thanks

EDIT: i tried coretemp 0.95 but i just get errors all the time when i try to run it

I use Everest Ultimate which has its own sidebar gadget - which is ugly - or you can find a better one by searching for motherboard in online gadgets

The Asus software has given me all sorts of problems. Don't install it. Sandra reads things well. Allthough the newest benchmark wont run at stock for me :( Another prog to try is Everest. Speedfan doesn't work properly.

After having real issues with the 903 bios, I have upated to 907. It fully supports the half multi - which is nice.

You have a very similar setup to me (see sig). I must say that I noticed significant improvement my lapping my 120 and cpu - even though i don't thinkI did a great job and probably used too much artic silver mx my temps dropped by 6C compared to unlapped.

I am still running at 3.5 using the crazy setting and have not managed to manually push past that yet so I will try your settings.

Sorry if this has been covered before.

Did anyone have trouble installing the raid driver from the installation disk (yes i did create a floppy)?
I spent over 3 hours trying to get windows to see my Raid0 array using the driver from the install disk. After a bit of googling, i found many people had the same problem, and a link to intel to download a better driver (or the proper one).

Hey presto!!! straight in and drives were seen in windows set up!!
Just thought i'd post here to share a solution, incase anyone else had/has the same problem.

Evening.

Sorry to spam this topic, but i have a few questions regarding this board :)

I am looking into buying this board. Is the soundcard any good that comes with the board?
It is advisable to update the bios after every update, or at least when you buy one?

Could you tell me what cooling is recommended for this board for overclocking in terms of size? The thermalright ultra120 (extreme) looks quite big next to the memory and video/soundcard.

Or are you able to oc with the supplied q6600 cooler?

My case has built-in 2front and 2back fans.

Thanks.

ideas for cooling hot north and southbridge

at stock on prime 95 my nb and sb are 47 and 45 0c. and shown in red by asus probe default preferences. I think this is why my board is unstable at 400mhz fsb.

I have a thermalright 120 extreme and an antec 182 (2 120mm exhaust fans on maximum at top and back). my cpu load temps at stock are 43,43,43,43. The Noctua 1200rpm 120mm cpu fan is orientated so that the air is pulll accross memory, pushed through the t120 and out towards rear case fan.

Are these chipset temps higher than they should be at stock? what do others have? is it becuase i dont have a downward facing cpu fan. should I use the optional asus cooler (instructions say not to if the cpu has a cooler).

thanks

Under extreme load (Prime95) my NB operates in the 60's and it's rock solid mate.

Ignore the Asus Probe thing I think it's more geared towards extreme overclockers/watercooling.
