*****Official ASUS MAXIMUS FORMULA thread*****

cheers for your help Fifer.. and appologies for the ammount of screenshots..
i may be mistaken, but i just want to be sure..

overclocked 400x9

looking closer its reporting the max bandwidth as 6400. it is reporting the speed correctly as 533Mhz. but is there an issue with the reported max bandwidth?

Hi, where you are getting confused is where it says that the chipset supports both ddr2 and ddr3. However the chipset can be mounted on different incarnations of motherboards, supporting either ddr2 or ddr3...

Quick question

Manually configured my bios just to get stock speeds (i'm not an overclock, please don't boot me out of the forums for it! lol) - set ram voltage to 2.1v but in AI suite it's showing 2.55v

which one should I believe, if it really is 2.55v it's going to seriously damage it. :P

Mine overvolts the ram by about 0.05 volts ,but yours is a bit out of hand , what does probe say?

PC Probe shows 2.21,

worrying, PC probe gave me a warning about the NB and SB temps, 45c and 49c at idle (well, pc running for 9 hours).

the other seems seem ok tho, cpu 39c mb 37c.

Should I be concerned? anything I can do to cool them down?

Cheers in advance!

Ram sounds more like what i would expect, lower it a touch in bios so you get the correct voltage in probe , thats what i have done with this board. temps are ok there , sb sounds a little high compared with the others , is this the none water version you have

yup, just heatsinks. Turned it off for 5 mins, rebooted into a bios and checked the temps there and it was nb 42c and sb 44c. booted into windows and it's back upto nb 44c and sb 48c.

the ram is correct now, it should be 2.2v but I read on an earlier page in this thread that somebody set it to 2.1v because it tends to overvolt slightly, so it's perfect now apart from the nb and sb temps being a big high. I notice the upper limit for them in the bios default settings is 90c tho, so in perspective i'm miles off any trouble.

thanks for your advice.

my spec is as follows incase anybody is curious..

Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 LGA775 'Wolfdale' 3.16GHz (1333FSB) - Retail
Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Dual Channel Kit (BL2KIT12864AA1065)
Antec P182 Super Midi Tower Case - No PSU (Gun Metal Black)
Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU (CMPSU-620HXUK)
Asus Maximus Formula Intel X38 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

Got an email from Noctua today saying the bracket was posted yesterday :)and should be here next week :(

Least I know its coming though.

Same, said it was posted yesterday. Not bad considering :D

Think I'll lap the heatsink and IHS while I wait ;)

Bracket arrived this morning :) Big difference to the stock fan. With the stock HSF, I was 45-44-48-49 in windows hitting 65 ish under load. Now sitting at 24-25-27-29 idle, under load 40 ish :)

Just clocked it using the cray function in the bios. Now sitting at 3501Mhz with temps at 36-36-38-39 and under load 65 ish (a wee touch too high)

Time to play around more :)

I'm having some issues with the NB temps.. haven't installed any extra cooling.. but its running around 55c at idle :S

What voltages are people using for the NB?

Are you running it passive, with the optional fan or water?

I've just pointed a 120mm fan towards the heatsinks/heat pipe and it's dropped to ~40c idle. Although thats not really ideal. I'm currently at 1.47v on the NB, so I'm not sure why its so hot.

The heatsink on the NB was really hot to the touch before I put the fan on it as well. Any ideas why mine is so stupidly high?

Just got this board

Hi, I took delivery of an Overclockers bundle yesterday consisting of an Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR Edition" Retail / Asus Maximus Formula / 2GB OCZ PC-8500 Dual Channel DDR2, to which I've added a BFG GeForce 8800 GT OC 512MB.

Putting the machine together was fairly easy and it seems to be nice and stable at the moment.

I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to overclocking / memory speeds etc., so please forgive me if this question seems a bit basic.

When the machine boots up I get the following

img0567na7.jpg

As you can see the inital screen tells me that my memory is DDR2-667, is this how the above memory is supposed to be displayed with this motherboard?

I haven't altered anything at the moment, but having had a read through the Manual, I've discovered the following within the Bios.

img0568ar3.jpg

(its under the Dram frequency that I've found the following)

img0569pn0.jpg

So my question is, is my memory being correctly displayed at the intial boot? or do I need to I need to manually alter it under the Dram Frequency?

Hi, you should be able run it at 1066, however you will probably have to make some further tweaks to the voltage settings and the timings...
Chris

With my PC8500 ballstix ram it done the same PC8500 = 1066Mhz. As Chris says you may need to change other settings to start find what your ram uses in terms of timeings x-x-x-xx and what voltage it needs. Should find these on OCZ site and then set them manually in the BIOS. Be carefull though this board seriously overvolts your ram think its by about 0.2V but dont quote me on that.
