*****Official ASUS MAXIMUS FORMULA thread*****

I just got this board along with E6600 G0 and 4GB (4*1GB) Crucial Ballistix and no matter what I do I can't seem to get it stable with the memory at the stock 1066MHz.

What I've done is underclocked the memory a bit and am running tighter timings instead, awesome board otherwise though.

You tried updating the BIOS to 5005 as earlier ones were not great with 1066 memory. If you have you could always try loosening your timings if not already tried, as with 4x1GB might strain board a bit.

Hi, I'm running 4 x 1gb Crucial Ballistix 8500C5, P/N BL2KIT12864AA1065. They are running ok with bios version 0505, but then so they did with the previous bios. Timings are 5-5-5-15 with the volts set to 2.1 in the bios..

Hi, yeah I'm on 505 and tried loosening timings but it didn't help any, symptoms were games freezing and then total loss of signal to monitor, usually within a few seconds of running a game.

I'm now running on the next divider down but with faster cpu/fsb speed/4-4-4-12 timings and it's solid as a rock.

heh,

My new board arrived today after the other one was RMA'ed. Same problem as before. DET DRAM on the LCD Poster in every combination of memory. Has anyone got this board to even start posting with Ballistix PC2-6400C4 (the BL2KIT12864AA804 stuff?)

Normally I'd say this was a lack of VDimm but the memory worked fine when starting up the first board to get to the BIOS (until the board died)

Yep i'm using 2 of the above kits (4GB in total) with no problems at all.

Sounds like psu could be a favourite aswell as obvious extra power draw from the gtx , whats your 12v read when you get into windows?

I think your right with the PSU, been reading the whole thread and was just about to post and noticed yours beat me to it.

Lets hope it cures it for him.:)

Yes i have mine running with 2 of the above ballistix kits installed i have allready said this a couple of posts above this one.The only other thing i did was flash the bios to the latest 0505 before installing vista.

I've found my new Patriot Extreme RAM works a treat......detects at 800MHz and all is well on 400*8 with no voltage changes (yet :D)

Plan to check what FSB I can get first, followed by what the RAM will do.....kinda prefer not to have to throw volts in yet, as 'ambient' temps are reasonably high with the GTX OC in and the quad under a Ninja+ ......

one thing i noticed with this board is that it needs more voltage to the ram for some reason  unless im doing something wrong

asus blitz formula 500fsb @ 1.9v
asus maximus formula 500fsb @ 2.1v (2.0v but it overvolts it to 2.1)

Right, well I got mine up and running this weekend. So far, so good. Initial impressions are far better than my previous board, P5K deluxe. Raid has stayed intact with 5 drives RAID 0 and all drivers etc have installed without hiccup. I ended up having to use a 3ware raid card on the p5k as it dropped raid arrays at a hilarious rate and couldn't even install things properly like the X-fi install CD. No problems this time :D.

At the moment I am on cpu/ram defaults and am running the following cooling on the mobo:

D-Tek Fuzion cpu waterblock with nozzle kit fitted
Custom double backplate
Swiftech MCW30 NB waterblock
EK 8800GTX Waterblock
Standard MOSFET heatsink assembly with backplates +custom sprung bolts
Thermaltake Extreme Spirit II heatsink (passive) on the SB

CPU is a lapped Q6600 G0 and tubing is 1/2"

At 21c ambient I am getting the following temps on idle after 2 hours:

CPU - 24C
MB - 33C
NB - 29C
SB - 36C

Had enough this weekend so will start ocing in the next few days :).

Hi, what are you using to measure those temps with, probe? When using everest or core temp what are the temps of your cores under 100% load such as prime?
Thanks..
ChrisC

A mix between coretemp 0.95.4, latest asusprobe and looking in the bios. Off ill today so may be able to start clocking once I get my head around the 'extra' tweakable bits. Shame they have made the bios more DFI-like imo ;). Sorry, missed the last part, I haven't set there stressing yet, literally put her back together and had other things to do.
