Official Crysis Demo thread

Not to my knowledge, you do it every time unless there is way to edit some game ini or inf file to make it higher like some APP's do by default.

Likewise can you add more info cause I got that info from Crysis forums but it was XP.

What is your RIG's spec and before and after FPS and on newest beta driver or other ?

Thanks.

(BBL after tv and change clocks back 1 hour)

I don't bother with fraps or anything like that, but it was noticably far smoother.

Vista 64
8800 GTX (standard clock) 163.44's
C2D @ 3.2
4 GB Geil 800 Mhz
Raid0 drives

Game running at 1920X1200 everything on very high no AA etc. I did get a request up on the very first time i ran this to install a windows update. Something to do with the way memory is handled or summin.

The more i play this the better it gets. It has crashed out on me 3 time since installing it though.

What i take issue with is that in lots of places, the graphics dont look particularly brilliant at my settings (1280x1024, everything on high), yet it still runs like a dog.Sure looking at a lot of it its pretty, but i fail to see why most of it is so graphically demanding that an 8800GTX struggles at high. Poorly coded imho, if not theres a bug that they need to sort out and fast

My GTX aint struggling, its running smooth as at 1920X1200 all very high with blood on and mouse smoothing off

Infact i'm sick of hearing this lol. There is quite a few people running this without problems maxed out to the same settings as me with 8800 GTX's

every single moving leaf needs to be rendered, and in Crysis everything is bump-mapped. bump-mapping is fairly demanding and because EVERYTHING is bump mapped, there's a serious drain on the graphics card.

Thats good info m8, but again you have 4GB, I think I need be back on 4GB.

Did you mess with other mixes of settings and find thats best, inc lower res with higher settings ?.

Well i don't think having 4 Gb will make that much of a difference as only 3.25 of mine is seen by windows and my RAM meter is only showing about 50% usage (I'm not sure of the accuracy of it, it is the g15 keyboard one). These are the settings that i used on the beta. I find the post processing on high very distracting with the motion blur. Also putting the shadows onto med doesn't make any difference to the visual quality imo. I am now going to try setting the process to high in task manager to see if that helps with the fps.

I haven't tested the different resolutions in the demo, but i did in the mp beta and i found that they made no difference to the FPS. The main ones that do make a difference are shaders, shadows and post processing. If you are having trouble with fps, i would recommend changing these settings.

yeah looks great

bad fps ?

makes it a bit more of a challenge...hide and seek ...pick them off like rambo lol

if you had picked up the enemys weapon you would have had ammo to waste...also you have unlimited sleeper darts

Fairly but not just that, the game play itself, i will lower it see if it helps.

I want that big gun rambo had in 3 i think it is.

I do but still didnt find to much, might because i saw them and was like "meh why take them on when i can just go straight past them?"

Anyone else checked out the editor. Added in some of the other weapons on the game. The new nuke effect looks awesome. Makes the version in the multiplayer beta look laughable.

There is also a tornado entity, which goes around tearing the level up, amazing. This engine is just amazingly good :D

Stick this line in a batch file to load high.

%windir%\system32\cmd.exe /c start "" /high "c:\program files\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis SP Demo\Bin32\Crysis.exe" -DX9

or

%windir%\system32\cmd.exe /c start "" /high "c:\program files\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis SP Demo\Bin64\Crysis.exe" -DX9

Obviously adjust the path for your own install. You can leave off the DX9 switch, i.e optional for Vista. Runs 32Bit better on Vista 64 for me in DX9, for now at least. It also allows the 64Bit exe to run with 169.01

Sure its been mentioned before. Displaying FPS and DX details in game, also to open the console command list. Just add a text file system.cfg to the demo root. Add the console commands.

con_restricted = 0
r_displayinfo = 1

Earlier this evening i had 6 tornados on the go whist following em in a chopper to watch the destruction. This is so amazing!

Have to add i tried both the program priority and v sync and its definately so much better at 1920 X 1200 all very high settings, lovely & smooth :D

I don't understand why you guys move to vista! I'd rather have better fps!!

I'm on an E6600 @ 3ghz + 8800gts + 2 gig ram + xp ..everything on high except shaders (medium) which seems a big fps hit @ 1920 x 1200 getting 28-40fps anywhere on the map which feels reasonably playable throughout.

dx9 performance in vista is way down for some reason, already mentioned it but for me dx9 mode on high is the performance equivilant of dx10 on very high like 10-15fps.

damn just been rock climing and it keeps killing me telling me im out the playing area....so those mountains/hills you see in the distance...they are a no go area:(
