*** Official DCS World Thread ***

Need some advice chaps on a quality HOTAS setup for DCS flight simming ( my focus would be modern jets, but I did enjoy flying warbird sims eg. At the moment I think I'm leaning toward the the Virpil VPC WarBRD-D base ( uncertain which grip ... ? VPC V.F.X ) and VPC 50CM3 throttle. Anyone have any suggestions / advice for optimising my DCS experience ?
I went with Virpil's VPC Cm3 throttle over VKB and Winwing for three reasons - zoom slider axis on the handle (vs momentary buttons on its rivals), very heavy base (no need for suckers like on the Winwing; VKB is also plastic fantastic so also moves with rapid throttle movments. CM3 never moves), no creep of the handles as well as no stiction as well as no gell/grease issues on the VPC - it does not use them.

Thanks for the advice. What do you use a flightstick / grip ?

My flightstick is a old force feedback joystick - MSFFB2. If I flew only the modern jets, I'd happily upgrade to a VKB gunfighter. Force feedback is too good to miss on vintage jets, helis and piston props though.

Just been out in the F18 for a 150 min flight at night. Have to say that FFB was very nice every with fly-by-wire.

The OH-58D looks like fun, the only other helicopter I have is the huey so something with a bit more technology would be good.

Anyone having any issues with OH-58D?
Its a fine module check out CasmoTV on YouTube he used to fly the heli, full of useful & learning content regarding the module.

Managed to break my rudder pedals and thinking of getting some MFG Crosswinds, just waiting on the combart footrests to come back in stock. Has anyone used them here?

Not used them personally, though they are very highly thought of. They were on my short list after Tim Davies recommended them to me, I love the look of them. However the lack of UK distro was the deal breaker. I even spent a few weeks trying to find a good quality used set but got fed up waiting in the end and ended up just buying WinWing rudder. Kinda still want the MFG's but I'm not prepared to deal with the international shipping, customs and associated fees.

Thanks guys, the delivery tax and potential import fees do make them more expensive than it seems on the face of it. But they do seem to get flawless reviews.

I’d looked at the WinWings but people had mentioned a slight damper stickiness in the center. Have you experienced that?

I can't say I've noticed it, I'll test and report back this evening.
I mean It's just a generic Chinese steering damper (copy of an oem fox racing steering damper I was told?) so I guess some expectation management is to be expected.
There is a wide range of adjustability I have mine quite loose at the moment so I'll try it at higher damper settings and let you know.

I bought a random damper from Amazon and it's practically identical. Designed and printed the pedals, which miraculously haven't broken (yet).

I've put my mission online, look for "LittleWars" on the server list.
If anyone manages to fly on it, feedback would be appreciated, good or bad.
A simple google doc here to explain a few things, think of it as a RTS game in flight sim format.

Just sticking my head in here, haven't noticed this thread before..

How many people are playing this in VR (Q3 for me) vs using Headtracking?
I managed to nearly make myself sick on the P51, apparently you are meant to 'ease' yourself into VR, but I didn't...

Havent don't much flying other than some of the F15 training and single player stuff, anyone got any n00b server recommendations?

@Trig I play 95% in VR, and just use IR tracking on the odd occasion.
Weirdly, I find VR "easy" in flight/racing sims, but as soon as I play Half Life Alyx, Subnautica or something where it's a person moving about, I feel quesey within minutes.

For Noob servers, I'd suggest the likes of Hoggit, TDCS, Y4A... but it really depends on what you're looking for:
- PvP, PvPvE PvE,
- dogfighting or campaign style things with a ground war too ?
