FFB2 is the best stick for use with the choppers (its FFB implementation is the yardstick in DCS) The Huey is relatively simple, but will take you quite some time to be able to fly comfortably, or even just fly at all :) But once you get how to fly it, it is by far the most rewarding flight model in DCS, or dare I say, any sim yet made. Note you WILL require pedals for the Huey and other choppers.

Nate

Thanks.

If I've understood correctly, the joystick is perfect, but it's useless without a pair of pedals...?

For the Helicopters, yes I'm afraid so. For the planes this is less of an issue and you will be fine with just the Joystick. Try it with the 2 free aircraft and see what you think.

Yep, tried it with the free aircraft and perfectly happy. Unfortunately, it's the choppers I'm interested in.

I'm away from my main computer ATM - but i recall a rudder assist for Helos in the options - maybe some one else here could see if that might be useful?

MSFF2 is a "twist" joystick so you just use that instead of the pedals. I also use that stick and manage quite nicely with both planes and choppers. DOn't worry about the pedals, they are certainly nice but nowhere near compulsory :)

Okay, well that's another perspective, thanks.

Do you fly the Huey?

Thanks for this...

..so I have not purchased anything for DCS yet, was waiting for this sale.

Can anyone give me their top recommendations of what I should get please...Flaming cliffs 3 obviously...anything else?

A10C, Huey are the two big ones and then depending on what type of aircraft you like i have most except the bf-109 and the migs but haven't really played it as much as I really should.

DO you like choppers ?
Black shark 2 -> Mi-8 -> Huey , order to buy in

FC3 -> A-10C -> F-86 -> CA ..... don't bother with the WW2 stuff yet

Hawk (in very very very early beta is on sale)
EFM - $34.99 (normally $49.99)

SFM- $27.99 (normally $39.99)

Black Shark 2 is the best module to "get into DCS" - its full fat, fully modelled chopper, but it is very user friendly, has very good training missions and lots of gameplay content. Plus it is much faster and much better armed than the outdated Huey.

One of my clan buddies (an avid flyer) has the Hawk , its very rough right now
The term rougher than a badgers arse , would be an apt description

Tho ... I still am thinking if to buy or not to buy (£22 is an ok price)
