I had trouble installing windows, so i did the trick of whipping out the battery and manged to get Xp installed. It made it to the desktop once and then restarted, now it gets to the Xp loading screen and restarts. Anyone got any clue on how to sort this out?

Ham would help if you can give system specs, and BIOS version.

Sounds like memory could be out of spec.

it the bios version that comes with the motherboard not sure what number that is

Well you done very well to get as far as you have IMHO :)

Firsup check out the first post and grab youself 310 BIOS. Use the link to DFI site and get instructions of how to do it from a floppy drive.

This is a MUST, and will all work towards fixing BIOS issues.

Well from the initial test of venice done so far it booted without problems in a Ne02 , just was'nt recognised properly (ID)

this was confirmed somewhere ( pls dont ask me to link it as I can't rem the thread exactly) by some mobo manufacturer (it might be DFI) and was pointed out the problem with Estepping will be with the San Diego's

I have used both too, with no noticeable difference.

I don't think anyone runs faster, but the marvell did cause stuttering in some games with an early driver- think thats fixed now.

Whatever you use - just rem the Nvidia firewall software is a resorce hog.

Joe i always dissable things that I don't use( I.e Floppy controller etc). Saves resorces.

Seems that many new setups have problems from memory configuration, noit sure if AUTO sets some advanced options too tight for certain modules.

also notice that when ram is in both orange slots the monitor takes its time to come on compared to when in yellow and orange as monitor is on right away apon powe up. This is puzzling me

sounds maybe like a weak memory controller.

Set CMD to 2T and see if that helps.

i dont follow ricco! when i have the sticks in the yellow and orange it boots up at 333 and (2T) but when i put both em in the orange its 400 and (1T) but fails to load windows. just keeps restarting after the bios loads.

Is CMD somewhere in the bios? in that mad GENIE part lol im lost.

where the memory options are , its the very top option.., Dissable = 2T

well 2T does put as much (we will call it) load on the memory and its controller as 1T does.

1T is prefffered as it does give a peformance boost, but in some configurations it can cuase stability issues.

BUT:

there is a valid arguement about single channel 1T or Dual channel 2T options.
We wont go into this unless it helps with system stability overall.

how do i flash the bios in windows?

how do i know which bios i have?

and how on earth do i know which one i should get??

theres so many....

Read the first post !

As for BIOS, only 310 is official (as linked) and I recomend anyone who does'nt know how to tweak all mem timings stick with it (for now).

For a start this is an not a MSI thread - so get out.
Second I understrand ** miffed off with ** DFI RMA, but TBH maybe they did do something and its possible hardware conflict or another peice of hardware.
So posting the same thing in multiple threads will not help you.

If you want information about another make , try to post a specific thread about it.

Edit* why does it star out the short you're ( U R) - thats just silly...
