Official DFI NF4Ultra-D/SLi owners thread.

Matt1: buy a DFI SLI-D when you can, if you want the possibility of SLI (and thus buy an nvidia card) it's just not worth the hassle getting an ULTRA board.
for a start no SLI bridge.... and one or two other things like they removed the pencil trick on later boards, etc. for the price difference i reccommend the SLI-D. (even though i went the full way and got an SLI-DR)
remember, dont buy a leadtek 6800GT if you like sli though, the cooler requires modding as it's too big :/
in fact overall the motherboard is very small and cramped together, it just gets dwarfed in my CM STACKER to the point that some of the front panel connectors dont reach across to the board! (sp/dif optical out and mini firewire won't reach the FRONTX, but they arent an issue to me, so it's not a problem). :o very strange, guess it fits small cases this way,

out of interested, how much does the leadtek need to be modded in order to go SLi? I wasn't planning on going sli with this generation of cards (waiting until i won the lottery and getting 2 x NV50s or something :D ) but i might if i find one cheap and the mod is easy.

Is it just a case of taking the plastic covering off, or does the whole headsink need changing?

Not much in it really, and if you definitely are not going to build until Easter, you'd be a mug to buy now, when there is a good chance prices will drop further.

That sums it up nicely, thanks. lol. :D

I'll wait :)

ah yes Tenshi, didn't think about the bridge. Again you make a good arguement go wait for the SLi-D, it isn't exactly running off, so I'll be patient and get it in a months time. Lets hope the prices drop a bit, maybe it will even be on special! :)

LanParty SLI-DR Help Please on newbuild

Newbie doing newbuid, already ordered PSU,Enermax noistaker 600watt, an 2WD Raptors74gig, about to order DFI LanParty SLI-DR, can someone give advice on what memory, make an part number, as I can't see in overclockers, the types in this forum,i.e gskill?
Also seen mentioned a cpu cooler called a mach2, who manufactures it, will i need other coolers,as well, i.e. northbridge, as I am getting 3500 90nm an want to overclock eventually, also what's the point of 3gb-s sata controller if you can only get a 150mb-s sata H/drive. Will I be better putting my Raptors on the 3gb-s controller or on 1.5gbs, also is the onboard sound any good, (got creative audigy 1st generation), will i notice much differance or should I buy new
Thanks in advance,

Thank's for that, just read the hole thread, several times an been looking all night all over, seem to get load's of contradictions, am no good at findind thing's an just end up more confused the more I read, there,s some OCZ 1GB (2x512MB) PC3200 Dual Channel Gold VX EL-DDR CAS2.0 which I think I'll just get £200 delivered, an hope for the best,
Thank's Again

yeah i was having issues figuring out what memory to get that will be stable for this board read many things (good and bad) about the same sticks just gotta read up on it more i spose :)

ignore the mach (2 or GT or whatever it is) :p (that's highly expensive phase cooling!)
if you arent using other drives except of the raptors, then hey use the 3gb/sec sata ports... either will be fine though, but read the first post anyway :)
ok, probably ignore VX (though i thought VX is fairly good still, is it having issues with the board?), still gskill 4400 LE is what you want, as it will do better in general than VX i.e. slightly looser timings, but at high FSB and low voltage (thus low heat) ~£206 inc del at the moment, or OCZ Platinum Rev.2 will be fine. (i agree memory is rather confusing though)
you wont need a northbridge fan because those are for intel, amd dont use the northbridge, get some case fans though to keep your case nice and cool :)
the onboard sound appears to be ok as long as you arent an audiophile, so i probably wouldnt bother changing that, otherwise you still have your creative audigy anyway.
If you do buy a new card, aim for the audigy4 or similar or it wont be worth it.

if you want a good cooling solution.. on air, the Thermalright xp-120 is the best, however it needs an extra 120mm fan on the top also, and it only fits in a certain orientation (heatpipes AWAY from the ram, or the ram won't fit in)
I have an arctic cooling freezer 64, and they are pretty good too, not quite as good cooling, but vastly cheaper and quieter :)
the 3gb sata connector is mainly for next gen hard drives really as far as i know :)
