Official DFI NF4Ultra-D/SLi owners thread.

DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 SLI-DR - CPU Cooler X-120 or MCX6400-V

Just speccing out DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 SLI-DR build am unsure which is best out of these :-
Concerns :-
Thermalright XP-120 Pipes will they block DDR4 Slot or if orientated other way interfere with any capacitators.
(I notice that MSI Neo2 & 4s can't use this cooler.)

Swiftech MCX6400-V - Weight 750gm (Ex Fan) puts it way over the AMD recomendation of about 460gm (Not good for LanParties )

3rd option may be to bottle out & go for the Swiftech MCX64 :o

Performance of both is good XP-120 ahead on Temp/Noise
PC Perspective CPU Cooler Comparison to Swiftech MCX6400-V

Would appreciate feedback from anybody using either of these.

Thanks :)

XP-120 fits fine and doesn't block any memory slots, you have the heatpipes on the other side of the CPU to the memory slots. I'm using one so can confirm this :)

anandtech article seems a Tras of ~7 is reccommended most for the NF4 boards if not overclocking anyway, (do high overclocks require that you slacken the Tras timings also?)

I doubt water cooling is really going to be worth it unless you really value your silence ps3udo .. hassles that come with it :P (cleaning the algae ? and water + electronics do not mix if something goes wrong :P)

any new Bios versions for the DFI recently? :)

tRAS of 7/8 is optimal, but some people have been finding tRAS of 10 gives more stability, especially with Crucial Ballistix.

Well the way I see it is Im not gonna u/g again until dual core is here (mobo, ddr2 ram?!?, pro) - so say 18months for it to be here in good supply with good mobos to take care of it.

Im unsure how good Venice will be - isnt just with SSE3 implemented and strained silicon throughout the family? With how 05 chips are overclocking, Venice may not o/c much more then these week 40's Winnie.

Im happy to be proven wrong - just dont make me buy one..yet...

EDIT: Ricco - what kinda o/c do u think I could get on air - worth me considering water cooling? From what Ive seen Winnies seem to o/c exceptionally well on air in comparison to water which only does a bit better - guess its quieter tho...

water will just make it a little quieter realy, and only show its benefit in summer when al lthe air coolers OC's start to drop off.

If your wanting big numbers though, you can pick S/H vapo's up for how much a watercooling setup can cost, thats unless you want the added benefit of cooling CPU, GPU(s) (maybe chipset).
Water only realy benefits in high OC's if the CPU starts to push high output(watts).

But this is totaly outsode the scope of this thread - so maybe look through the OCing/cooling forum.

In testing I also found the Tras of 7 gave me the best bandwidth, but 10 seemed to help with pushing for higher clocks.

Just wondering mate - once the XP-120 is installed how easily is it to change mem when required? (slots 3+4 I believe are occluded) I presume it needs some skill but is doable.

Its not a problem mate, I can take my Gskill in and out without too much fuss, taller modules or one with heatspreaders might be a little harder but should be fine.

Cheers, oh well the idea of those Corsair LED modules is out of the window then

Just got 2 weeks to wait for my blooming PSU and Ill be sorted :p

My geil has heatspreaders and I can move it easily enough...just so you know

Hi all, I'm wanting to o/c my new system which is running on a Dfi Ultra-D but when it comes to settings ram timings my head just boggles. I want to try and push my cbbid week51 3200+ to the 2.5Ghz mark and I need help with setting my ram timings.
Not only do I not know which ram settings would be best for me but I don't know which things to change in the Dram settings.

Any help on what dram settings to change and what to change them to will be much appreciated :)

Im going to give the 310 a go first,
just getting some basic bench test at defualt with 217 BIOS to see if there is any gains etc.
