tho I suggest you try and make it tick (;)) as I hear Tagan are now replacing them with the newer ATX2.0 version free of charge (other than having to send it to a UK address) - Minstadave will fill you in ;)

ps3ud0

Minstadave please fill me in!
:D

Both versions have the 24pin connector, I have the 1.3, will be RMAing it for the dual 12V rail ATX2.0 version when I get a chance.

If you want SLI get the 2.0 Version as it has dedicated PCI-E power cables, the 1.3 only has a 2 molex --> PCI-E adaptor.

Well I have just emailed Tagen saying that my PSU is making a strange ticking noise. . . :D
The only thing is I dont have the reciept for it, although I did buy it brand new from overclockers. I dont think you need it anyway from the looks of it.
It should have gone back a while ago anyway as one of the sata cables cought fire and buggered one of my hard drives
Me hopes for the best :p

Internal USB Header question

Currently installing an internal USB cable for my Matrix Orbital.

Is the VCC Pin the +5V connection, just don't want to damage anything.

Thanks.

I've just got my sli-dr installed and windows up and running and now want to fiddle with the memory timings etc. Im new to all this and cant seem to find an explanation of the memory part of the bios in the manual or anywhere else for that matter...

I've got a gig of ocz platinum r2 3200, a winchester 3500 with an artic freezer 64 and a gigabyte 6800 ultra. What do i need to change to get it running at optimal speeds for gaming? I've read up it should run at 2-2-2-5 1T but cant find the bits to change for the life of me.

Thanks for any help you can offer

/edit.....found the memory settings for 2-2-2-5 1T. Scored 5506 in 3d Mark 2005.

Theres shedloads of settings in the bios and the manual really doesn't help explain any of em. Anyone have a link to an explanation of what they all do?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers Minstadave :)

Didn't realise i had to manually specify the mac address in bios. Having all sorts of fun connecting the new machine to the net. I think i've got to release the ip from this machine before I connect the new one to my cable modem (im on blueyonder).

Is the nvidia firewall any good or should i not bother and just stick with a software firewall? looks kinda complicated for my little brain

Thanks for all your help and support guys.

I don't use it the firewall, its a bit of a resource hog, starts another 3 processes on your machine, one of which is apache which takes a big chunk of memory.

hi,

i got my dfi sli d mobo when oc first had it, built my system and it kinda worked, got windows installed and all drivers, however a message on posting kept on saying ram is not running in dual channel mode, so i popped them into slots 2 & 4 as the onscreen message instructs, after that the system kept on crashing with blue screen, i tested it with 2 different pairs of pc3200, and same thing kept on happening, i emailed dfi and they suggested trying various memory configs and checking that the ram is compat, which it is (corsair value select 2 x 512mb).
after following the dfi engineer's instruction, the pc would boot, but not post, every thing came on but nothing happened, all 4 of the little red led's stay alight aswell, my cpu works no probs as i got it tested a long with graphics card.
anyhow sent it back to dfi, 10 days later then set it me back saying it's been repaired, so i rebuilt system again, making wiring all neat, then the moment of truth, i turned it on and bugger me silly, the same thing happened again! it boots but no posting!
managed to get another rma, and so far it's on it's way back to me now, dfi say they've repaired it again, hmmmmmmm! i await with bainted breathe!

is there any trick or thing i have to do before rebuilding my system, so that it works?
i've read on sum posts that u just use single channel ram 1st the once it's up & running you flash bios, then install 2nd stick of ram for dual channel.

any suggestions would be great, many thanks

When you say it boots but doesn't post, does it show the DFI logo then stick there?

Put one stick of memory in the outer orange slot (if that doesn't work try the outer yellow slot) and see if it POSTs.

Try removing all USB devices too.

Just to confirm, to anyone fed up of the noisy chipset fan, the Zalman ZM-NB47J northbridge cooler can be made to fit with a graphics card in the top slot, no pins needed to be cut away, just bent the whole lot with a pair of pliers.

My card is a watercooled X800XT.

Temps are around 38-40 degrees.

Shot of the full system just for the fun of it, waiting on a WD Raptor so no tidying has been done yet:

TDX on the Winnie 3000
Silverprop SL on the X800
Eheim 1250

Is it not possible to watercool the chipset on the mobo? Would the graphics card be in the way? I presume that your graphics card is in the top pci-e slot?

There's only one 1/2" waterblock that fits with the top card in place, a pretty lame Koolance one. The graphics card runs straight over the centre of the chipset when in the top slot and the clearance of even the stock air cooler is very little.

It is possible to put the GFX in the lower slot, but there is a slight performance hit.

The Zalman passive sink seems to do about as good a job as water, I put a very low RPM fan blowing on the PWM and chipset area, temps are now 28-30 idle, 34 load for the chipset.

Oh well looks like I will have to get a Zalman passive heatsink then. If the original starts making anything like my IC7-G fan then it will get on my nerves in the end! Im going to be building my new rig very soon and its good to plan ahead ;)
I wonder why they designed the chipset to be right in the way of the graphics card?
Another question: As this is going to be my first A64 rig and I dont know anyone else with one too, im going to have to wait for the mobo's to ship with a bios that is compatible with the upcoming Venice core. How long will it be until a new wave of updated mobo's come in stock?
The other option I have got is to get the mobo+everything else that I need now and try and get a Venice compatible bios chip that I can plug into the mobo. I just hate waiting :p
Any ideas?
